Passed my full license yesterday and am over the moon with it.
Looking forward to being part of this community.
First bike I'm looking at buying is a bobber but am after some advice on what's best to start out on. Looking to spend about 4k

Thanks in advance

I spent that on my first bike. Got a year old ER6f with 1500 miles on the clock which was as good as new.
Although I got very comfortable with its power quite quickly I still rate it as a starter big bike. Good MPG, grunty
and comfortable. If its for daily use and commuting etc I'm not sure a bobber or bobber style bike is an ideal
conveyance. If (like my bike) it's purely a toy then buy whatever gives you a chubby. Laughing Practicality only really
matters if it's a tool, not a toy.

Thanks for the reply... Yer it would be mainly used as a toy and the odd commute to work now and again as I don't live far away.
I was looking at something like the Yamaha 650 xvs Or Suzuki vl800 but not sure if these are ideal to start out on and maybe a bit to big

define big

both of those bikes are around a quarter tonne with a whopping 50bhp

that's big to me, but maybe not in the same way you're thinking

^ this. I'd advise against weight rather than power (within reason), as you're just as likely to crash a 50bhp as a 100bhp bike IMO, yet you're more likely to drop a bike that weighs the same as the QE2.

Ahh well those bikes are definitely big for me, I'm like 12stome and 5'9. No way would I pick them bikes back up.

I mentioned them two bikes as that's what I'm watching alot of come up on eBay. I knew they were big bikes but never really thought to check weight, just not sure where to start. I know I'm not bothered with sports bikes. The stripped back bobber look appeals to me more

In reality you'll drop it on a wet loose surface and not a grippy carpet.

For the record, neither of those are Bobbers.

Listen Dickyboy82 , you choose what you want to ride and tell everyone else to “fugg off !”

As for bobber’ish bikes ? The Kawasaki W800 seems to be a good bike.
I’ve not heard anyone say bad things about them.
Personally I’d call it a retro styled road bike Thumbs Up

I've seen alot of honda Shadow VT600 mentioned alot but they have had mixed reviews from what I have read. For me personally I do not know much about them bikes so can't comment.
What's people's opinions on them as a base for somewhere to start??

If I was going to get something underpowered that looked cool, I’d probably consider a moto guzzi v7 which is more cafe racer, they do a v9 I think which is bobber’ish.

Maybe a Vulcan 500? Shadow seems like a popular choice too along with the Rebel... there’s a matte black one that parks near me at work that’s caught my eye a few times, if i was that way inclined Wink

Most of these have older models you can pick up second hand for your budget

Hi bud, congrats on passing your test. I passed my test in April this year, i know how exciting it is to be out their Smile

I bought a second hand MT07 the same day I passed my test, I absolutely love it. It's really light for a 700cc bike, and as i'm a short rider it's absolutely ideal for me. I had to get it lowered to help touching the ground, but for me it's a perfect first bike. It's got power, excellent torque which you do have to be sensible with as a new rider, comfortable riding position, your more or less up right. I would highly recommend one as a first bike. Keep us updated on what you decide Smile

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm glad I got here. I am just about to buy the first equipment and I can not decide. For this I read the forum and broaden my knowledge.

Welcome Smile, I can imagine how great you feel, I passed just before Christmas.

I started with less money (more or less just replaced my 125 for value), went for a mk1 Bandit 600, I don't have enough bike experience to offer advice but am sure you will feel like a Magnificent Bastard (in the good sense), when you get one Smile.
