It has been all over the news. Perhaps not on the front page today, but it hasn't exactly been hidden...

It's been on the front page of Al Beeb each time the protests happen.

I think they have certainly plaid down the numbers involved. There was a homemade video on FB that showed huge numbers gathering before the weekends demo.

You have to agree, when the French people get on one, they don't half carry it through. (as Marie Antoinette and her husband found out Laughing )

The Beeb can only keep a serious topic as top news for so long before our collective attention span ends we want to know what Celebs are up to instead.

It is huge. It started as a protest against fuel prices and has escalated into a general rant against the Government, Beyoncé singing at an Indian wedding and the price of cheese....

See, Egypt knows how to stop protests.

You don't give in.

You don't deploy troops''

You don't need water canon.

You just don't sell yellow vests - genius Laughing

Time to invest in 'yellow' vests. What are the French pissed off about anyway? They voted in an obvious shill who came from nowhere, who said he was going to crack down on all the lazy trade unionists, and that's exactly what they got.

Interesting ...

President Macron’s €10bn of concessions may not placate the gilets jaunes but they will take the French budget deficit over 3% GDP (unless big spending cuts). A breach of EU rules for which Brussels is currently pursuing Italy ...

Hang on, didn't the frogs make carrying a yellow vest compulsory in a vehicle a while back?

Every stop and search of a vehicle will reveal a riot suspect!

You can thank the EU for that.

Not Pro EU enough? Too anti left wing?

What kind of utter idiocy is this? Do you ever have any clue about anything happening in the world?

Anti lefti wing?

The yellow vest movement stands for:

- Decrease of fuel and motor taxes
- Improved standard of living
- Rise in minimum wage
- Resignation of President Emmanuel Macron and his government
- End to austerity measures
- Government transparency and accountability[31]
- Improved government services for rural areas
- Constitutional proposal for initiatives, including constitutive, abrogative, recall and legislative initiatives

And the movement was caused by:

- Austerity measures
- 2017 wealth tax repeal
- Fuel tax increases
- Traffic enforcement cameras
- Globalization
- Capitalism
- Neoliberalism

So please tell me, in your own words, and providing any examples to prove otherwise, why you think anything about this is "anti left wing"?

Need to look at more than the size of the crowd.

The headline says it all. France protests 'an economic catastrophe'.

BBC seem to have a hard and fast rule that they aren't ever allowed to publish anything that makes protesting look like a good thing.

I actually wonder if there's anything written in the book of press standards, or whatever their guidelines are called. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of limit set which states media organisations are forbidden from directly inciting mass civil conflict.

Notice how most rage stories are about bad individuals or abstract social sections who can't be directly fought against, and how riots and mass protests are always shown in a bad light, or simply aren't shown at all.

Protests about Brexit are stale now, whichever side you think is right. The kid's climate change protest was new so newsworthy. It also made protesting look like a good thing.

Funny thing was one of these commentators/pundits/experts or whatever you want to call them said children had enough knowledge of the world and what was going on to have their views listened to and should be treated like adults.

I was screaming at the telly because a few days ago the same woman was saying that Isis bitch was a child when she left and wasn't responsible for her actions.

Make your mind up you cow. One or the other.

Sorry I worded that part badly.

What I mean is the kind of protesting that looks violent or incites mass revolt at the national level.

Macron got the left wing vote in France. He's supposed to hold socialist Liberal views.
It was between Le Pen and Macron, which candidate you you reckon represented the right wing?

He may call himself centrist, but he's basically the Blair of France, which even if not left wing enough for the likes of you, was as left as it got in the final run in.

Correct, he's of the Blairite variety.

Liberalism doesn't mean left wing, by the way. Liberalism is pretty much cloak-and-dagger capitalism. Its primary demand is freedom, freedom of life, society, business, trade, whatever.

A 'liberal socialist' doesn't even make sense, it sounds like a label used by those who believe in laissez faire governance founded on the principle of everyone being voluntarily nice to each other.

I know that France has the highest tax burden and public expenditure of Europe. But sometimes I think that the situation has nothing to do with Macron and his politics. It’s largely a cultural phenomenon that’s a particularly French societal mode of periodic collective “letting off steam”.Thinking But if the previous protests were more of a festival nature, the current situation seems much more serious, and it scares me personally. My husband's relatives live East of Marseille, and we were even going to buy property in France.. But now I'm even afraid to go there by car. We've seen what protesters do with cars, we heard they use pepper spray Hurt.
The times are changing. Europe is no longer as safe as it used to be.
