Firstly I'll put up a white flag, this is nonpartisan stuff and everyone is welcome to play.

Here are some resources about developing our own thinking, what this means is you have absolutely nothing to lose by playing with and learning this stuff.

We are as plebians not really exposed to this stuff which as you learn it becomes obviously a bit of a crime. I'm lay as fuck myself with it but slowly getting a bit better and to be fair, just a small number of a few ideas can improve your perspective for the better.

This site isn't too bad and it is free to get at quite a bit for example this
https://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/index-of-articles/1021/

If interested, start with the students section and then progress from there if you are still interested.

They also have a YT channel for lectures, some of it is very dry but available still.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpyvWfo9diMIMi_wX5LUbSQ

Plenty more resources available online you can hunt if it takes your interest.

Hope you find it useful Thumbs Up

Why have you put this in Politics and Current Affairs? Surely Random Banter is more suitable? Or perhaps Found on the Net?

Thinking is intrinsic to politics, philosophy, science etc, do you object?

Not at all, but you have just made a stronger case for why this isn't the best forum for it. It covers a far wider range, and is useful for many other things. What about those folks who aren't interested in politics? Don't you want to help them too?

I'm not sure I'd associate YouTube with 'learning' Smile I can only think of a couple of channels that are even informative on their subject, the rest is just noise.

You see this is why it pays to not listen to the local idiot, this is an actual site source that teaches that also puts some lecture material on youtube....

for free.....

And just to dispel that particular point. There is an EPIC amount of learning material on YT.......

Just because it is used in a lecture for teaching purposes, doesn't mean it is useful, valid or even factual. People teach all kinds of dross. And anyone can set up a website, which if you then extract material from it, becomes a site source.

I'm not criticising it though, cos I haven't read it, so can't make a judgement - it might well be very useful Smile

Edit to add: I don't want to be Mr. Spock Wink

I rarely read links people post on the internet, unless I am convinced they will definitely change my life substantially for the better, or I'd never have time to do anything else. So convince me, then I might read it - but don't Tef out on me, or I won't read your sales pitch Smile

There is no negative to learning more. Engaging with the material will only produce positive results, that's it. If you don't want to then so be it, genuinely. And I don't wanna be Spock either Wink

I wasn't gonna bother as its another pointless question but feck it.
Are you asking me if it is my opinion that I claim there is educational material on youtube? I think it is factually observable I made that claim..... Razz

Secondly, by me posting links to learning material doesn't that kinda sink your assertion..... Razz

What I really think you are asking is why I'm posting mainly mixed material in the other thread of which I explained in the other thread?

But to re-iterate, I'm not 100% on that topic and I'm looking for positions and information that I can then check so I can build up my viewpoint based on actual reality. I have asked multiple times for counter sources and jack shit. Also it triggers the F out of somebody and that is worth it now.

This little experiment is entertaining as well, we actually have somebody arguing anti-intellectualism and anti-education. I have a feeling all the experts also know nothing.....

Also a bit of a fun shot back (all is fair in banter), do you not consider it interesting at least a teeny bit, that anything some of you hear that supports your feelings in the other thread you gobble up like a nice cuppa and just accept as fact. Yet the same few people suddenly find their scepticism when presented with some interesting shit that might challenge their own preconceptions? Some of the same names jumping all over it? Fascinating Smile

Que snowflake in chief to start spewing about education being brainwashing of the liberal elite or somesuch nonsense.

The rest of you are alright tbh though, sorta Wink

The North Koreans learned how to make nuclear-tipped ICBMs. Negative for some, wouldn't you say? Wink
Not only that, but how much learning capacity do you think you have? Is it not possible to waste time learning stuff you'll never think about again? There certainly are negatives to learning some stuff, and it differs for each individual.

Ah, there it is! I knew I had good reason to be suspicious Laughing Have you stopped for a moment to consider that not everyone does hoover up every bit of so-called information they read and take it as gospel fact? And if you're aiming it at someone specifically, why didn't you just call it in the OP title, so you two could just get on with it without trying to drag everyone else in?

I haven't even clicked your link Smile I'm just saying Youtube isn't an informative or insightful platform IMO. Think about most of the shit people watch, more so since Google took over and it became very clickbaity.

You do seem to post opinion pieces a lot, so did Rogerborg and I said the same thing to him, no way am I watching an hour of someone talking. It depends how you like getting your information, I'd rather read an article, as you cam scan (read) it first and see if it's worth reading properly.

50% agree, 50% disagree.

Articles are way better than an hour of someone talking at their speed.

However, I wouldn't say youtube is just full of shit. There's some informative stuff on there. Off the top of my head I can think Numerphile and Thunderfoot. Numberphile is basically maths porn. Thunderfoot has all sorts, from debunking fantasy tech nonsense (e.g. Elon Musk's hyperloop or solar roadways), countering feminist hypocrisy, and a few general 'cool science' videos. Khan Acadmey is another exampe of good content on Youtube.

I had to revoke automatic trust for him, unfortunately. It started with the shit he pulled on Carl of cuck (who himself I now view as a massive bellend), and went fully when I learned he did the exact same shit to everyone favorite - AS. Absolute leg-end Sad
Khan Academy - some fantastic resources Thumbs Up Tedx and so on. So much stuff available.

I've never really liked Thunderfoots superior attitude, but I watched one his videos the other day about that buzzfeed article; 37 things black people need to stop doing (it was posted on here). In there was a graph saying black people disproportionately killed other black people, Thunderfoot 'debunked' it by saying black people were 5 times more likely to kill and kill other black people Neutral I thought he was going to disprove the point, not merely object to how the data was presented but then reinforce their point.

I'm not saying all YouTube's shite, techmoan's always good, plus there are a few gaming channels I like (ok one) Smile, but most of it is shite. My point was more if I want information it's the last place I go to, even for tutorials, I normally have to go through a number of them before I find one that's any good.
