Babycham is just perry, that's all. It's a nice drink (but Babycham is a little sweet...). Some people call it "pear cider", a marketing term aimed at dunces (an even worse name is "perry cider"). It's just "perry".

The easiest way to get some perry is to go to Morrisson's and buy 3x500ml of Weston's perry for a fiver, or buy direct from Weston's ay £16.48 for 8x500ml bottles (7.4% ABV).

Curiously, a drink called "Lambrini" is perry (cheap, 7.5% ABV) and so is a thing called "Pink Lady", which is more babycham-like and makes a nice cocktail for girls when mixed with a good slosh of gin, and a slice of mango ("A lawnmower". Things can go a bit sideways after a few....).

Why? Beer's nice. So's cider, perry, many wines including fizzy ones. Even some spirits.

We have 4 bottles of the stuff left over from last year. I call it 'lady-petrol'... It probably won't get drunk now because the ladies have progressed to gin and cocktails.

Yes, what is it with designer Gins now. Quite a few pubs round my way are stocking silly gins where last year it was Gordons and that's it.

More likely a loyalty reward from Ford for perpetuating a myth.

What you mean is they think they have discovered cocktails, whereas those of us who already DRINK cocktails (if we aren't drinking champagne) and have drank them for more than 40 years, have known about them while all those daft mares were still wetting themselves (often quite literally) about prosecco.

I'm not buying into this "fancy gin" thing. I've gone as far as paying a bit extra for the odd bottle of Hendricks now and then, but that's all.

I'm only talking about prosecco v champagne; there were other more prestigious and quite-nice-tasting brands of sparkling Italian wine (Asti) but which the cynic in me suspects has probably been reformulated/rebranded in the prosecco hysteria, anyway.

The designer gin thing is a fad and will soon be dying out IMHO. Source: work at a fancy gin/cocktail bar with over 200 types of the bloody stuff on the shelves.
Pretty disheartening when you have the ingredients and skill to make pretty much any cocktail and most of the time you're serving gin and tonics.

Oh, OK. Got it. I don't pay much attention to fads, so this prosecco thing has largely passed me by. I reckon it's all (as with most things, incl. Champagne), marketing hype.

Can it do better than Aldi cider which is £1.82 for 4 cans?

Or, renamed to "Festival Strength Brothers Pear Cider" and marketed to a very different demographic of poseurs.

(And ahem, I don't mind that actually - except that they now don't sell it in cans, meaning you can't take it into festivals Rolling Eyes - but that's possibly so that you buy it from their stall where available. 7.5% means less toilet breaks when in the middle of a crowd.)

Ah, Prosecco. Numb-er of throats and inhibitor of female morals.

Clearly invented by a man. Don't drink it personally but I'm buying a half dozen bottles again this year.

I don't normally drink those darker beers - I much prefer a good lager.
What I will drink though is good home brewed stouts - stouts with extra flavours. A favourite stout is one with licorice in it - literally like a slap in the face the first time I tried it. The stout was actually refreshing and had a lovely smooth taste to it and with no bitterness or dryness. Then after a few seconds of swallowing the licorice taste would appear. You should try it if given the chance.
