Find out which bit is missing or worn out. I've seen all manner of things to act as a washer on a clutch lever, which invariably get lost and bodged on old bikes.

Could be as simple as a nylon washer which is a bit worn. The important thing is to make sure that the lever is fitting its bolt well, rather than packing out above and below the lever. That can make your clutch misbehave when the seasons change, and is a pain in the arse.
