https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-6516655/Electric-cars-no-longer-Congestion-Charge-exempt-London-2025.html

Quote:
From April, only cars emitting less than 75g/km CO2 in electric-only mode for 20 miles will be exempt from the Congestion Charge
In October 2021, TfL will only allow 100% electric models to drive for free
From Christmas Day 2025 all cars - including zero-emissions electric ones - will have to pay £11.50 charge
CC exemptions for private hire cars will also be removed from April 2019
Controversial plans also mean all older cars within the North and South Circular must pay £12.50 per day from October 2021

And the same ar$ehole is putting council tax AGAIN..... Shocked

Which proves it is just

a) a tax to make money
b) an attempt to force everyone on TFL. (and more tax)

He'll find a way of charging cyclists after that.

Got to agree - taking electric cars is counter=productive.

Would it be correct to infer motorbikes are on borrowed time as well?

Is the clue in the name - congestion charge?

It's not an emissions charge, it's a congestion charge. Electric cars cause congestion just like ICE cars.

How do they know there will be congestion with electric cars in 2025.

It's a money making charge, nothing more.

Don't forget they want to eventually ban all cars from central London. Obviously trade won't suffer when that happens.

It's ironic that cars replaced horses as a cleaner method of transport due to all the horse shit left around the place, now we are going back to the horse and loads of shit on the road again in the name of clean air and global warming.

I'd rather have horse-shit and nice roses than COPD and East Anglia as a swimming pool...

Pointless argument.

As long as there are 7 billion and rising humans we are doomed at some point unless we find a way off this rock before that happens (which I can't see happening).

Culling the useless is the only other alternative, as heartless as it sounds.

Now where have I heard that before Thinking

Mpg at no point did I suggest that everybody who currently owns a car should get a horse. It would be a bugger to stable one in a tower block and we don't have the grazing land.

Thank you for your amazing Google of some American stats though. most informative.

think i am going to get a classic vehicle if this bollocks hits motorcycles even further!

which person/organisation is donating to Khans party to influence this agenda.

if you really wanted no vehicles in central london you would just straight out ban them from entering otherwise its all just a money making scheme which has been 15 years in the planning and has finally come to fruition!

We can start by not sending Aid to anywhere, let the buggers fend for themselves.

Sounds like one of those overly-long-term vision ideas for creating a London with clean air and open roads.

Problem is it's the kind of thing that affects all the little people, while turning London into a nice clean-air-open-roads playground for the ultra rich.

At the very least, the congestion charge needs to be met with an adequate alternative transport scheme. More buses, cheaper tickets etc.

TFL is pretty good TBH. It should just be free though. Hop on, hop off buses and tubes. There'd be no reason for car journeys then.

You're all missing an obvious idea - I can see one and I live hundreds of miles away..

There's a big river running right through the middle. Buy an old stinking noisy smokey ugly diesel boat and use that to commute.

You only have to deal with the PLA then, and they are a pain in the arse!

You think parking a car in London is expensive, try mooring a boat - that's even if you can find anywhere to moor.

Hmmm. I'm wondering that if enough folk did it then it'd be difficult to police.. for a few years.

But - a river is a massive asset. Why does London not have flat bottomed ferries running up and down the river? You could plonk ferry landings at key points along the river and bingo! Far less traffic using arterial routes and with actual journeys to destinations being short.

Or, sell up and move to form a new city called 'New London'. Hope it's not an actual place but you'll get the idea - it could be planned from the start to include all of the key systems such as water, gas and electricity. Roads would be created that work.
To me London is a few things - commerce, politics and tourism. Remove one of those and surely it'll improve the place?

Or... does London need another Great Fire?
