Hi Guys!

(new to riding bikes (~2 weeks) and new to working on them for the record! so apologies if my description/terminology sucks!)

I bought recently a 2006 Honda CBR125RW6 from a guy, the bike works fine and is in pretty good nick all things considered (especially price!)

Basically the time I've been running it, the choke cable hasn't been functioning and has recently snapped. (The bike starts and runs fine, but is running rich, the spark plug was black and sooty. Im guessing the reason why it still runs is as the choke broke with it slightly open?).

So I bought a new choke cable, took out the tank and air filter box, and got down to the carb. The part where the choke cable enters the carb, is very rusted and stuck (not the casing but the valve setup inside the case, PART 7 on the diagram of the Honda CBR125 Carburettor, see attached images)

Ive found dealers are selling the part for an absolutely insane £86, for something which other bikes have for pretty much free brand new on ebay compared to that price!

My question is:
(and i know you guys will hate this, but here goes!) should I keep running the bike with the choke just slightly open? The bike starts, runs and gets me to work just fine?

Alternatively:
Does anyone here have this particular part from a bike they are breaking that I could purchase off them (UK based)? Or should I buy a used carb on ebay? Or any advice on anything else that might work? Or will I have to suck it up and fork out that money at the dealers?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated Very Happy

Why not soak the housing & choke plunger jet in penetrating oil?

It currently is just to free the plunger etc. But everything in there is all mashed up, snapped and completely unusable.

Thinking atm probably just buying another carb is best and nicking the setup from that to be honest!

Hi,
If it's the brass coloured plunger your talking about, they are interchangeable from many other choke cables.
Cable just clips into it.
I know this as I just removed a seized choke assembly & swapped it over from a completely different carb
I just measured it with vernier & it was exactly same dimensions.

Choke works fine now.

Was the wee spring that had corroded & disintegrated causing it to stick.

Worth a look & try.

Btw it took 3 days with wd40 then I gave up & squirted some plusgas with a 2ml syringe (free from any UK pharmacy for the druggies Very Happy ) then some serious pulling with molegrips to get the bugger out.

Cheers,
GAZ
