From what Dydey says (I assume it's true) it sounds possible. I also wonder if that's why they started introducing jackpot/rollover caps.

Yes a syndicate tried it in the early days. I'm not too sure which lottery it was (UK or Irish) but AFAIK they didn't quite get enough cash together or something to buy every combination - they hoped that by keeping their purchases to around a third of combinations that their luck might just work and their profits be far better.
As has been said it didn't work! Did they break even? I don't know.

But, with a syndicate trying to guarantee a win, how does the logistics work out in actually checking for the winning ticket?

But notice the lottery picked up on the scam.

I do the same two lines every week unless I’m side tracked for some reason.

I’m still destitute and it will be the only way I will ever have big money.

I tend to only buy one line on Euromillions when it goes over £80 million, I'm too tight to be buying tickets all the time. Nice bit of escapism though, what would I do, who would I have killed etc.

Which forum member would you have shot first? Smile

If you won a mil' on that raffle thing that's 20k a year for the next 50 years, take off say 200k for a house and you'll probably still run out of money at some point, depending on your age/how long you live.

Obviously with one of the big Euromillions wins then you could buy a mansion and start a Jay Leno size car/bike collection.

Val? Jewlio? MCN?

Rogerborg?? (no rules, is fantasy)

If you won a million you should be able to get 5% on it, 50 grand a year and still have the mil to use if times got bad.

You can get that with large amounts and specialist investors. It's not open to the plebs. We are lucky to get 1.5% and be thankful to our masters for it. <doffs cap> Laughing

Still in a small syndicate that's been going 7years, just stuck with it out of habbit really, but wouldn't miss it if we wound it up.

I had £170 in annual winnings this year, so at least it's actually covered the £9 monthly payment and a couple of quid over this year.

Very rarely I buy a Euro millions ticket, but I know something I'd like to do if I won millions. Stupidest idea ever, but I'd want to set up a business that does CNC machining and manufacturing work, and also specialist services like aluminium welding or making brackets and mounts

The idea is that for people like me who want the odd bespoke car or bike part making, machining, modifying or welding, that I'd have a firm that would do all these small little jobs for specials builders and restorers, without bitching and moving about production volumes and tooling costs etc.

Assuming that you intend to stop working. Could you really manage on 20K a year? 1.6K a month?

All that time you need to fill. You will soon get fed up and end up spending far more...

Eeeeasy. Over 5 years earning that amount I managed to save 30 odd percent of my salary (without even trying), take rent out of the equation and it would be even more.

I think you'd have enough for hobbies etc. assuming they aren't too expensive, I'd have no issue filling up my day.

Same here. I could have a very fulfilling life on £20k a year, and that's without another income, although I don't have rent or a mortgage to pay.

5% interest on a million would be easy enough to get, go to Barclays Wealth, Natwest Private, Coutts or similar and they'll do it all for you. Laughing

Not the National Lottery, but there's Pick My Postcode (formerly known as the Free Postcode Lottery) which I've won a tenner on a couple of times.

I live on less than that now, since I paid off the mortgage. Any earnings above £1400 go in an ISA or pension. It's not even remotely difficult

only done the lottery a hand full of times since it started
TBH the chances are so remote its not worth it for me

I earn enough to have a roof over my head and just about pay the bills my mrs works so between us we keep the wolf from the door
must admit a few years back life was easier and more profitable
and more disposable income
but worst case I only need about £1000 a month to cover the basic's

and TBH if I had millions I'd be dead in a few years if that
I'd be away doing silly shit like BASE jumps and stupidly fast bikes that are way above my ability Laughing Laughing Laughing

20k a year without a mortgage, or having to save for a pension would be very easy for me too.

I guess it depends on different peoples outlooks and expectations, as to many having no debt, no problem bills and a house that is yours is not really being comfortable.

If you have money, your likely to think of more reasons why you really need it.

If I had a 1million pound pension pot, until the day I decide to retire I'd do some form of paid work for at least a token amount of hours per week. Being at work is great for stopping you spending money.

It depends on your job. Stuck in an office yeah, unless you can do internet shopping. Being out and about I was always buying food and other stuff, if I had the work van I'd pop into shops and buy big items Smile, and then on the way home often get a takeaway as I was too pooped to cook anything.

On the subject of this 20k a year stuff, I'm sure years ago they had a 30k (or something) a year/for life prize on the Euromillions. That would do me fine Wub

Sorry, but the very thought of spending £50 a month or so on the lottery just makes my hair bleed. FFS do the sums, people, and work out how likely it is that you'll actually have a decent-sized win.

Here's a thought. For those who are so hooked on this idea that they genuinely have a chance of becoming rich through gambling and can't resist their regular fix, then instead of pissing the money away on the lottery, spend it on Premium Bonds instead. Each month you're in with a chance (absolutely miniscule, of course) of winning £1m. But the difference is that when, after say 30 years of winning bugger all except a few £25 prizes, you finally say 'bugger this for a game of soldiers', you can simply ask for all your 'stake' money back After 30 years at £50 a month, that would be eighteen fucking grand. Brick Wall

And if once a month isn't enough to satisfy the dreaded urge, then do as Ste suggests and every day go and look at the free https://pickmypostcode.com which generates £100s per day...
