Which forum member would you have shot first?
If you won a mil' on that raffle thing that's 20k a year for the next 50 years, take off say 200k for a house and you'll probably still run out of money at some point, depending on your age/how long you live.
Obviously with one of the big Euromillions wins then you could buy a mansion and start a Jay Leno size car/bike collection. |

Can you hook me up with your savings options? I know in the bad old days you could stick it all in a ING account and get 6%, every time I look now anything near that is either for a year or on a paltry amount like 2.5k |

Still in a small syndicate that's been going 7years, just stuck with it out of habbit really, but wouldn't miss it if we wound it up.
I had £170 in annual winnings this year, so at least it's actually covered the £9 monthly payment and a couple of quid over this year.
Very rarely I buy a Euro millions ticket, but I know something I'd like to do if I won millions. Stupidest idea ever, but I'd want to set up a business that does CNC machining and manufacturing work, and also specialist services like aluminium welding or making brackets and mounts
The idea is that for people like me who want the odd bespoke car or bike part making, machining, modifying or welding, that I'd have a firm that would do all these small little jobs for specials builders and restorers, without bitching and moving about production volumes and tooling costs etc. |

Assuming that you intend to stop working. Could you really manage on 20K a year? 1.6K a month?
All that time you need to fill. You will soon get fed up and end up spending far more... |
Eeeeasy. Over 5 years earning that amount I managed to save 30 odd percent of my salary (without even trying), take rent out of the equation and it would be even more.
I think you'd have enough for hobbies etc. assuming they aren't too expensive, I'd have no issue filling up my day. |
Same here. I could have a very fulfilling life on £20k a year, and that's without another income, although I don't have rent or a mortgage to pay. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

5% interest on a million would be easy enough to get, go to Barclays Wealth, Natwest Private, Coutts or similar and they'll do it all for you. |

Not the National Lottery, but there's Pick My Postcode (formerly known as the Free Postcode Lottery) which I've won a tenner on a couple of times.

only done the lottery a hand full of times since it started
TBH the chances are so remote its not worth it for me
I earn enough to have a roof over my head and just about pay the bills my mrs works so between us we keep the wolf from the door
must admit a few years back life was easier and more profitable
and more disposable income
but worst case I only need about £1000 a month to cover the basic's
and TBH if I had millions I'd be dead in a few years if that
I'd be away doing silly shit like BASE jumps and stupidly fast bikes that are way above my ability ____________________ I have become comfortably numb

Sorry, but the very thought of spending £50 a month or so on the lottery just makes my hair bleed. FFS do the sums, people, and work out how likely it is that you'll actually have a decent-sized win.
Here's a thought. For those who are so hooked on this idea that they genuinely have a chance of becoming rich through gambling and can't resist their regular fix, then instead of pissing the money away on the lottery, spend it on Premium Bonds instead. Each month you're in with a chance (absolutely miniscule, of course) of winning £1m. But the difference is that when, after say 30 years of winning bugger all except a few £25 prizes, you finally say 'bugger this for a game of soldiers', you can simply ask for all your 'stake' money back After 30 years at £50 a month, that would be eighteen fucking grand.
And if once a month isn't enough to satisfy the dreaded urge, then do as Ste suggests and every day go and look at the free https://pickmypostcode.com which generates £100s per day... ____________________ KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS |
