Okay so I am buying a new engine for a KYMCO K-pipe upgrading from a 50 to a 125 the original engine has a kick start and electric, the new engine is kick start only. The seller UK based pitbikeparts has mentioned

"IF REPLACING AN ELECTRIC START ENGINE AND USING LIGHTS YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR."

The issue I have because my bike is not really a pitbike, the voltage regulator is not the same. My regulator is not a 4 pin but instead a 5pin out. I am worried I won't because to find a regulator suitable for this engine. I am building this bike purely for fun but also as backup while my CB500 is off the road for a few weeks.

The first thing I suspect is that the 125 engine may be a thee phase alternator, have you gat any wiring diagrams?

Unfortunately I don't The original engine stator was a 6 post to the best of my knowledge, and 3 wires. two for the regulator and the other was spark.

I had one of those for a while, the 125 version. Like a BMX with an engine. Hopefully the engine you're using has a proper clutch, because the centrifugal one was pretty lethal when shifting down in the wet.

You need the regulator that goes with your engine, so ask the people you bought the engine from. It sounds like the new engine has a two phase alternator and the original was a 3 phase.

You could try just wiring your new engine into the existing regulator and seeing if it works. It should, it just means you're using 2 of the 3 diode pairs in the reg. Might mean you kill the reg/rec - so you then buy the right one - or it doesn't make enough electricity, so you buy the right one.

It's just a single phase generator , so a basic rectifier regulator is needed
like the unit for the Indian Enfield

Thanks for the replies, I have included a pic of the stator. Two wires come from the magneto the other from the pickup

Haha yes Robby of course I went with a full manual. now of this semi auto crap with a pointless clutch.

Can you just swap the stator from the old engine over?
