Hi,

My brake lever moves in 25mm before the brakes are firmly on, and at least 10mm before it does anything at all.

The Yamaha manual says there should be no freeplay, and says that if there is any, take it to a dealer.

The Haynes manual suggests 0-7mm, but says nothing on how to adjust this.

The bike has done just under 4k miles.

Is this an easyish fix or something best left to the professionals?

Thank you.

Whichever brake is stock, 2016.

I'd say it is roughly 1/3 in at 25mm.

Front or rear? Drum or disc?

Adjust if drum, bleed if disc.

Bleeding is required, no need for a professional.

Thanks for that, found bleeding in the Haynes book and seems perfectly doable.

The bike has done just under 4k miles.

From new?????? meaning its under warranty ??????? if it is phone the bike shop and go from there.

You fiddle with a new bike under warranty then say good bye to any "customer service" from who ever you purchased the bike from.

But a good bike shop will honour the warranty depending on what you have "fucked up" by trying to fix it your self.!!!!!

If it has no warranty, then its time to learn about your bike.

More details about your bike posted on here will help.

Needs bleeding?? why.......again is it a new bike etc.????

What year is the bike, is the fluid clean ( can you get the reserviur top off ???? ) , any leaks anywhere, does the hose to the caliper ( assuming its a hydraulic brake ) "bulge", is the caliper stuck, is the piston stuck, are the pads worn out, how is the disc, any strange handleing of the bike???????

some pictures to start to narrow down the fault. It may even have a wrong brake lever blade.

You have a manual, do you know of cmsnl for the exploded views??? which can only help.

More detail needed to help you, pictures, even some vidioes, over to you........

cmsnl does not list a 2016 ybr125 ???????

I looked at the last one in the list. The front brake is a single piston fixed disc slide caliper type.

find your bike on cmsnl and post the caliper exploded view.

There needs to be some "free play" in the system else the brakes wont release.

On older bikes the most common cause for excess hydraulic lever blade "travel before pressure" is due to worn tapered discs, worn tapered pads AND worn slide pins, meaning the caliper piston travel is mostly taking up this "wear" before exerting true pressure on the pads to make the brakes work.

How "wobbly" is the caliper when the pads are out??

Of course, you may simply have an incorrect brake lever blade fitted.

When did this "excess brake lever blade travel" start ??????
