hi, now that autumn's here my bike is starting to have trouble starting and keeping on tick over when starting from cold (ie. left overnight). I've noticed that when this is the case the exhaust chucks out loads of smoke. Is this normal for a 125 when starting cold? Everything seems to be fine once I've ridden it for a couple of mins and everythings warmed up. thanks.

I am guessing this is a 2 stroke...

That is normal, the rings have not expanded yet so oil is getting burnt, this is good Smile condensation in the exhaust will also add to the smoke. As long as it stops smoking once it has warmed up it sounds like a perfectly healthy 2 stroke.

yup - second that - it'll look especially bad on cold mornings because a lot of that 'smoke' will actually also be water vapour/ steam . . .

Asuming it is a 2-stroke, smoking is normal, as is extra warm-up time before it will settle on tickover. It should still start OK though. Maybe time to give it a decoke? My older 125s used to benefit from moving the throttle needle up a notch in colder weather.

If you tell us what bike it is, we can be more specific in the help we give you.
