I recently got a new monitor, it's awesome except for when I run a device (say a games console) via HDMI and use the headphone jack, it's stupidly loud. The volume control goes up to 100 but 0 is off and 1 is blasting out/likely to cause hearing damage, and from there it only gets louder.

Any ideas why it's this way? Could it be a calibration issue from the factory or something, and is there anyway to fix it?

As a cheap if clumsy workaround you could try this.

I was thinking of something like that, or hooking up my soundbar as the monitor doesn't have any speakers, although I had an issue before where the soundbar would turn off after 15 mins with an AUX input.
