That paint job was already done to the bike as I bought it. Apparently, Yamaha UK commissioned a handful for this bike.
It was done by Dream Machine, and so privately would have been ££££££££££££££££££££££!

I have had a silver one, a red one, a blue one, that yellow and black one, and now my current red and black one - each colour was the fastest while I owned it Laughing

P.S. I am not in the least bit biased towards the Fazer 1000 Shifty

Never ridden a CBF1000, but from all I've read, I wouldn't personally have one

It's a 2 wheeled car, maybe that appeals to some people, the only positive was the engine that grew on me as all that de retuned/mid-range stuff started to make sense.

Happily, the Fazer 1000 exists. Therefore, there is no point in the CBF existing.

So the FZS1000 is better than the CBF1000 without question apparently.

But is the FZS600 better than the CBF1000, THAT is the question???

Laughing

For me it is, and for me I think I would prefer the 600 too. But I haven't actually ridden the CBF Rolling Eyes It's just what I have read and others have told me, coupled with long experience with bikes, and looking for what bike to get next myself through 30-something years of riding - I could be wrong, and you might love the CBF; especially if you don't try a Fazer Smile

Remember this: if you love riding, you are not likely to only ever try one bike, so it is forgivable to make mistakes in your choice Wink I've done it before. Adds to your experience, which makes it easier (sometimes) to choose what bikes you go for in the future.

Nothing wrong with making an informed choice, but I always think that usually applies more if you need the bike for practical reasons. If it's more about just loving bikes and riding, and wanting a bit of fun through that medium, then I've always allowed the heart to have more say in what I've gone for. In other words, a particular bike has caught my imagination, and I've gone for it. Usually, I'd have read a few road tests and reports in the bike press just to make sure it wasn't going to be a complete lemon, and has a few good points I would like, but practicality rarely came into it! Sometimes my 'method' didn't work, but mostly I have no regrets.

So if there's a bike out there you really have a strong hankering for and you think it will do what you want it to do, go for it. You can always trade it for something else if it disappoints you, albeit usually with some financial hit.

Paint jobs for bikes, if done by specialist firms, are usually pretty extortionate ime, but my experience is limited and it will depend on who you go to. Once you have the bike, if it's your only bike, my experience also says that you'll likely drop the idea and just ride the thing anyway.
Not to mention it's only really worth it on a bike that is really special to you, again imo.

Not forgetting you'll likely harm the resale value, and given what I said about the chances of going through a few different bikes as the years pass, it's rare that your first one will be your favourite, except maybe from a nostalgia point of view.

I'd forget paint jobs until you have more experience, and know more about what you really like. For now, get a bike, and ride it!

P.S. There are loads of caveats to what I've written above, and at the end of the day, you are responsible for your choice Laughing

For a while, I used an RG500 to commute on the M11 from London to Huntingdon. Not my brightest choice of bike for that trip Laughing

Tbh, a Fazer 600 (FZS600) would definitely fit all your requirements. A mate came with me on my first Euro tour, me on the thou, him on the 600, and it coped just fine - more than adequate. They handle pretty well, go pretty well, have a bit of weather protection, comfortable - just a great all-rounder. The only real advantage the thou has is that you can be lazier with the gear changes. But some like stomping up and down the gearbox in the twisties; I do, but for everyday use, the thou is more relaxed.

Nope, not gonna comment on this one, as it's outside of my experience. Time for someone else to advise you Smile

Speed triple changed a lot from 94 to 99, and then went mental. Different bikes. Research is easy on them . Fazer thou is a better bike for touring as it has wind protection. What about the V strom?

You may think it's clever to spout bhp and weight characteristics, you're still not riding them. Go ride these bikes and give us feedback. Otherwise, you're just 12 looking at pictures of girls.

Who agrees that Mr Autism-mental-block won’t actually buy anything? It’s the thrill of looking at specs and pretty pictures that’s like sperg catnip, not actually buying and riding a bike.
