Good day all

I've had to replace the turn signals on my bike following a low speed drop.

I've tried buying the same pair from the previous vendor on Amazon but found that the away facing LED's don't work, however there is a set behind the mirrored surface that do.

Picture for reference:

I thought this was a problem with the batch so ordered another pair, from a different vendor; same problem!

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I've tried re-attaching one of the remaining pair that's not broken from the drop and it works just fine.

Original/First replacement set from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0779RH12Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Second order from Ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-LED-Turn-Signals-Indicators-Light-reaview-Mirrors-FOR-HONDA-CBR1000RR/183630489598?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I appreciate that LED's sometimes require a new relay to be fitted, however I didn't need this to get the first set to work before.

It probably is a batch problem, have you spoken to the vendors?

They're two separate arrays of LEDs . . . asking the obvious, but how many wires are there to connect up? Depending on how they're wired you'd have 1, 2, 3 or 4 (the latter would be seriously naff but you never know!). You could get a 12v source (a little transformer would do for these as there's bugger all current) and test them on the bench rather than relying on getting them working on the bike.

If there are 2 wires, it suggests something isn't connected up right inside. Try reversing the polarity and BRIEFLY apply power; do the outside ones then work but the inside ones not? If this is the case, one of the arrays has been wired up back to front. If nothing at all from the outside ones then they're probably just not connected (either workmanship or the contact has broken). Depending on how handy you are and how fussed about sending them back, it might be easier (if possible) to open them up and check the wiring yourself. It's a few LEDs so will be pretty simple.

Hello all

Update on the indicators - they've fitted and wired up correctly. Voltage testing shows the cable gets between 5 - 9 volts going through as the indicator switch is used respectively.

However, the indicators facing away (so the main row of LED's) only flash when I turn off/on the datatool alarm. After this neither work, but again the row behind the mirrors themselves do

I should also mention that I've checked the electrical system over for any faults, all the fuses are intact and everything else works fine. The LED's, when they do flash from the alarm, are quite dim too.

Any thoughts?

9v is inadequate. What part of checking the electrics for faults, did you do?

Did you wire the alarm yourself? I would suggest it is part of the problem.

Also array of directional led's are shit and should have no place in indicators. I would not be relying on these. Until non-directional cob led's become used in indicators I will be sticking with 21w ba9s bulbs.

I have to agree with Kramdra here about LED indicators.

They are shit. Even the super bright ones are shit.

People notice normal big indicators with an incandescent bulb. They don't notice tiny little LED indicators. Car ones work, but they are big LEDs with a big refractor in front of them to spread the light out.

If you like little indicators, feel free to use them, and they will still be legal. Don't be surprised if more people try to drive into you, because they didn't know you were indicating.

Also, you're not getting enough volts at the indicator. Multimeter time, first thing to check is the switch. See if you have 12v going into it.
