Repairing leaded glass window

It's a 1930s metal framed window, I suspect the panes really are held in place with lead, certainly feels soft enough. Is this feasible as a DIY job? Can it be done with the window in situ?

Meanwhile what's the best thing to patch over the hole with, I'm not too bothered if it's not see-through, so long as it stays in place.

Yes, you can DIY that, but you'll need a decent soldering iron, electric or gas heated (a "heat in a gas flame" one will do). Just tape it up with waterproof tape for now.

I have stained glass window as part of my front door. Google traditional stained glass window places in your area and see if you can get them to come out and fix it. Easy job for them,
Or start watching YouTube videos on lead windows.

We had about twenty coloured glass windows in the garage. I tried to get someone to make me a bigger window to double glaze a hall top window.
There was only one company in town who did stained glass. And it was owned by a mad man I think.
I don't even think it is easy to do as there are many things to be controlled during the process.
You need to work with poured lead and it is affected by gravity.
Mostly windows are removed and worked on the flat.
I think it is one of those craft type jobs that requires a lot of practice to perfect/avoid disasters.
If you can get the matching coloured glass sheets then knock yourself out learning.
But I would plan for failure until I mastered it.
They glass is easy to work with as it is soft and easy to cut. The leading is the skill.
As suggested, YouTube the shit out of it.
