Hi,

First time poster, and not that mechanical minded, so go easy on me

I purchased a Honda FES 125 2009 S Wing at the turn of the year, when purchased the bike ran perfectly. I was riding around 3-4 times a week and each day a 10 mile round trip. Had week off work where I didnt ride but turned over.

The following week, went to go to work and the bike wouldn't start. At first the lights were on, but when the brake and ignition button pressed it was 'clicking' but didnt turnover. I charged the battery over night, and the next day worked fine.

Then onto this week, with the cold and icy weather I have been getting lifts to work. I intended to go on my bike to work yesterday, but when starting same as before, lights on, and just the clicking noise again. I charged my battery again, put in today and still the same.

Any idea what could be some of the possible causes of this? I was thinking perhaps a faulty battery, or because of the temperatures outside (-7c yesterday and currently -2)? My bike lives in my back garden with a motor cycle cover over it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a replacement battery is needed, a quick check with a multimeter will confirm the battery voltage.
while your checking the battery ,check the connections are tight and clean, also the earth connection to the frame.

Thanks,

By connections, do you mean the ones going to and from the battery or somewhere else specifically ? (Sorry if a really stupid question)

Yes the two on the battery and the negative cable that goes from the battery to the frame (chassis)

Yes.. at first it doesn’t, but after triggering the ignition a few times (8-15 secs) it begins to flicker and dim.

Tried a new battery, charged the old one too... still nothing.

Cleaned the connections.. just a constant clicking when pressing the ignition button.

Got a video but guess you can post them on here?

Did you charge the new battery? They often aren't supplied with a full charge.

If the new battery is fully charged and all of the connections are secure, I would change the starter solenoid. They're cheap.

upload to youtube, google photos and post the link

I'm betting my money on the starter motor has had it, I have worked on about 12 of these and are quite common.
