Hi all,

I was riding to work today when my bike decided to have a bit of a fit. I didn't notice any change in the control, handling or power but the controls went a bit cuckoo.

On the Digital speedo side it was reporting temp as HI (it wasn't as far as I could tell) then it had Err - 3. on the Rev counter side the rev counter looked like it kept resetting and the engine management lights and temp lights kept flashing.

I slowed down a bit concerned but after a couple more mins it seemed to clear and the readings returned to normal (temp 73 no lights correct revs)

It was fine for the rest of the journey and got me home tonight too.

Any ideas what might have caused this or am I just an extra in Stranger Things?

Cheers!

Edit: so manual say

Fault code: Er-3
Diagnostic Code: --
Symptom: Data from the ECU cannot be received correctly.
Probable cause of malfunction:
Improper connection in wiring sub lead.
Malfunction in meter.
Malfunction in ECU.

So now I just need to work out how to diagnose each of those Very Happy

With the bike running, but stationary. Move the bars from lock to lock, does it cause an issue?

If so, suspect some damaged wires / short around the headstock.

If not, would be looking at corrosion around connector blocks and earth.

I would also be looking at the earthing first of all, then as stated at the loom around the headstock area.

similar to the problems i had - turned out to be a burned stator. check the charge voltage / ac output voltage and check if any of the 3 stator wires have contininuity with earth (frame)

Thanks all,

I will take a good luck at the wiring this weekend as about 5 months ago i did fit heated grips so it could be with the salty roads some water got in somewhere.

I had the Reg/Rec changed last year and at the time the guy was talking about sending the stator off to be rewound but when he checked it and it was all OK. Thats not to say it might not have gone in the mean time of course.

The problem has not reappeared since but its about time I cleaned some of the crap off and re treated with XCP anyway, so while doing that I will check the wiring carefully.
