been looking about online for a good option, but trying to navigate around journalists and top 10 lists is really doing my nut in

does anyone have a recommendation for a small tracking device preferably with a mobile app.

also are there any decent ones that don't need a direct connection to the main battery, but have some sort of long life internal battery to charge up every few months

thanks

Nice tech butt...

It costs as much as insurance (per year) and won't prevent your shit getting nicked.

Nicked bikes will maybe not be worth the cost of repair when found.

It costs 1/8th of the cost of my insurance, which would be double that if I didn't have it. It depends where you are and what bike you have.

To answer the original question if you're looking for a non subscription based tracker then best option is probably minimoto tracker, otherwise biketrac. Keep in mind the plod probably won't help you recover on a non sub based model.

£99 X 8 £792
You should move house. Smile

Y so fcukin' expensive? Shocked

Anyway, recovery using a tracker depends on the condition of it when found. I do not believe these are valuable devices. They do not prevent theft.
Prevention is better than cure.

...because London, nice area of London, but London nonetheless.

Bike I wanted was £2.5k insurance, decided it was a bit too ridiculous and got my second choice.

Prevention, because locks and chains are sooooooo effective against grinders Rolling Eyes

Recoveries are usually under 24 hours of the bike being stolen, most of them far less, a lot within hours. Yes they could damage it whilst stealing it, but they almost always steal and stash for the very reason that it might have a tracker.

I agree that the pros an cons need to be weighed against what you are trying to protect, but saying it’s worthless is ignorant.

Ignorant is a bit harsh. 😥

It won't take long to strip a bike of parts. Especially if they have that grinder you mention. 😁

We're I live a tracker is a pointless expense.

All I said was I THINK they're worthless. I am allowed an opinion.

So you tell everyone on an Internet forum where you might hide a tracker?

What if the crims are reading this. 😁

Well if it's in the headlight then everyone will be able to see it. Rolling Eyes

If I wanted a tracker then BikeTrac is the only one I'd even consider.

But I wouldn't really want a tracker that keeps a record of where I've been, how fast I got there, etc etc etc. Laughing

Then you want the Monimoto, which someone else mentioned earlier (albeit with a typo!) - it fits that description. No personal experience but it's had some good reviews online

Who are the thieves?

MONIMOTO SMART TRACKER
$199.00.

I suppose peace of mind is an investment.

£147 if you change to the UK website, but yeah kinda agree.
Also slightly annoying that the batteries last up to 12 months.

If it was £30 it might be a nice to have for that extra peace of mind, but I'm not seeing it do anything that other cheaper options already do.

Rewire do a nice little unit for £50 +£5 a month. Good phone app with all the usual features. Used by lots of food delivery riders and couriers.

Mate of mine has a shop just South of Tower Bridge, he supplies and fits them for £120 so you then just have the £5 month subscription.

BikeTrac, I got my bike back and could ride it home after fitting some brake disc bolts.
