Isn't it more a case of it having extended our ideas of how physics works? Some of Einstein's work is still among the best physics theory we have, isn't it?

I see it more a case of a separate field within physics, some of which overlaps into what we knew before, and some of which doesn't*. 'Physics' is very wide-ranging in what it covers.

* a question of scale?

I'm watching Terminator 2 (not for the first time) and have just twigged that the inventor of Skynet was called Dyson. Coincidence? Also now fancy a Honda XR100 as ridden by the young John Connor, which appears to have an infinite number of gears.

^^^These days they use chemical additives to give mortar additional properties. Blood mixed with lime, sand and sometimes grit obviously works as most heritage structures are still standing.
It wasn't common practise but for certain structures like aqueducts, then it was often used.

More like, what can we do with all this ox blood now the butcher has had what they needed?

Tell yer what, pour some in this mix.

FFWD>> a decade or so.

Hey-up Bill, that wall we built looks as good as the day we built it.
T'other one without it, dun't look as good. Yer can see where t'weather is getting at it.

Well fuck me gently and call me Derek. Who would've thought it.

Dunnae matter now Bill, they've got this fancy cement stuff.

A word for word account of how and why they briefly used ox blood in a lime mortar mix.

There is an average of 1071 hours of sunlight per year (of a possible 4383) with an average of 2:55 of sunlight per day. It is sunny 24.4% of daylight hours. The remaining 75.6% of daylight hours are likely cloudy or with shade, haze or low sun intensity.
At midday the sun is on average 37° above the horizon at Manchester, England.

During 24.4% of daylight I wear them 33% of the time.

Not necessarily, piss has been used for all sorts of useful things and still is.

Here's just one historical use..........

https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/yorkshire-coast/features/how-alum-shaped-the-yorkshire-coast

They also used to use it in the process of tanning leather, which brings us to the subject of shit, or pure as it used to be known (google pure collectors)

Yeah, extended is a better word, and yeah it's correct that physics is mainly a load of specialist areas which overlap into each other.

It's not about Einstein's though. He came up with relativity, and none of that was altered by quantum mechanics. QM changed our understanding of how matter exists at very small scales, regardless of whether it's stationary or travelling at light speed (Einstein's area).

Overlap in physics isn't necessarily decided by scale, but I think your thought process is correct. Quantum and classical mechanics are separated by an arbitrary cut-off point at which everything must be calculated using QM equations. The cut-off point isn't strictly defined though. I think generally it depends on the size and nature of the atoms/particles/photons you're dealing with.

Organic produce is not completely chemical free. It also does not use natural methods of production either.

Chemicals are used 'only when needed' which means antibiotics are still shoved into animals.
Soils can still have pesticides and other nasties dumped onto it.
Free range hens do not wander around farm yards where cars sometimes scatter them apart. Hens live in some challenging conditions..

Farming is nasty. Modern farming is intensive. Animals are filled with antibiotics because they're forced to live together in crowded conditions. Disease spreads rapidly and if one gets a bug, they all get some jabs.

Someone mentioned poop earlier and why I did this post.
Much of your solids from toilet use are turned into a farming product. Often the solids are mixed with lime and turned into what looks like a whitish grey mush. It's spread onto farm land and adds 'goodness' to the land.
The lime is added to kill germs but is never 100% effective. The lime does not kill off various chemicals which people have shat out. This includes hormones from the pill and other stuff.
I've seen sheep eating this human solids product whilst it was heaped up and ready to be spread. Many farmers just do not care.
Food crops are then grown on said land and we eat them. Remember to wash those ingredients folks!

No I'm not a greeny. I just know this stuff.
I have a heap of farming facts if people want them.

Piss was important too. Google night soil collectors - there was a huge demand for urine and urine soaked soils to extract saltpetre (potassium nitrate) for gunpowder production. Thumbs Up

It's allegedly good for compost heaps too. Razz

I mentioned Einstein because I'm a layman, not a student or professor of physics, so he, of course, readily springs to mind. But as I understand it, he had some of the ideas about quantum mechanics wrong, subsequently proved so by others. Of course, that doesn't take away from what he did achieve.

I saw this video about how flatworms fight with their penises and I immediately thought of this thread.

It's a video about penis fencing so some people might consider it not work safe.
