Hello all
Just replacing the speedo cable on an XR125.
I'm not sure how to secure it at the wheel end,the screw doesn't do anything at all to hold it in place and it seems the only place to lock it in there is the positioning of the clamp that holds the cable to the fork!
It was the same on the old one too.
Surely it should be a lot more secure than just slotting it on the spine and tightening the clamp?!
Do you pack it with grease?
Maybe I pull the boot down further ?
Cheers all

All sorted now, just me being a nob...
Taking the retaining screw out completely did the trick .
The groove now slots all the way to the shoulders and the drew is now doing the job it was intended to do.
Thanks all ,its good to talk and put another sensible perspective on a job- Sometimes it's all you need.
Always helpful, nice one and stay safe ok

Have you tried taking the screw out entirely to see if the outer wikk seat deeper in?

Twisting the top of the inner soy that it can seat correctly at the bottom?

If the XR is the same as the XL, unfortunately that's just the way it is!

The locking screw merely stops the drive cable coming out of the hub, it does not stop the whole thing wobbling around!

Ok Sid,I think you could be right.
What an oddshit set-up.
Should be like a plug keeping the outside of the cable flush or a screw on like the other end!
The weather gets in there easy..
Cheers man

You know ,to be honest I hadn't thought of doing that .
Maybe thinking it was a really sensitive piece that could lose precision or fall into the hub.
But it's really a tractor .....
I will do as you suggest once it stops pissing it down..
See if I can find a diagram of what should be n there .

Nice one!
