Is a motorcycle him or her and why?

Is your bike a bitch or a gimp?

I think that's what I would go with but it sounds better in an advert if it is a she, looks like 'she' has been well cared for.

A big lump of turd known as a Honda Shadow with a big engine and no power or road finess, turns like a barge. But on the plus side it has big panniers and a back rest for your new found 'biker bird' that no doubt will come your way.

You have to pander to your target market I guess. I'm often infuriated by the feminine reference in VW camper Type 2 adverts. They carry stupid names like Daisy or Buttercup and are usually as rotten as pear but have nice cushions.. Thus they sell to gormless hipster birds.

In general a bike is gender neutral 'it'. However if you are trying to offload a stack of shite then use all means necessary.

My four penneth..

Are you assuming my bike's gender?

Mind you, with a name like 'strumpet'...

By the rules of the Czech language, it could be both and even it depending on what word you use.

Motorcycle = he
Motorbike = she
Bike = it

This is why the English language reigns supreme. No silly gender assignations to inanimate objects, so you don't have to guess whether your coffee table is a he or a she when talking to those foreign chaps.

Well, English is a very simplified mix of German (very similar grammar to the Czech language) and French, 'merican is even more simplified version of that. That being said, your language still has its quirks, that other languages don't have and ordinary people don't even use nor understand. For instance, the way you express events that happened/will happen/are going to happen/have happened/have had happened... and 3 forms of every verb depending on that.

English is quite like Tetris, easy to learn, hard to master. Slavic languages are quite the opposite.

That's it Rhyno, you make sure you take everything you read ultra-seriously Laughing

This will be the real demise of the British; not world wars and the loss of empire, or even "uncertainty due to Brexit", but the steady erosion of our sense of humour Sad

But you're not British, so I guess you can be forgiven Smile

That's the key - take the best the world has to offer, dispense with the rest Wink Laughing

I used to be able to order a beer in ten languages. Then I learned to order twenty beers in ten languages. After that lot, it didn't really matter whether I could speak at all Laughing

It.

Gender assignment is the top of the slippery slope , at the murky bottom of which resides "Vehicle Naming"

I never speak to people again when they call their bike 'her' or 'him'.

These people can never be trusted.
