They had one of those (on trial, I think) at IWM Duxford to strip some of the paint or corrosion from their Handley Page Victor. Wub

Must admit that if I had the money I'd buy one. Not because I'd need one and only to get my own back at rust for giving me 40 years of pain!

I wonder how reliable they are?
Definitely rapid removal of coatings but surely the market for their use per cost offset is limited?

Me too, there wouldn't be a rusty thing within a half mile radius of the house. It would be a bit like when I got a magnifying glass in the hot summer of '76, you could see traces of my activity all over the place.

If the company making this are smart and want to be billionaires, they need to be working on a mass market one that costs £100-£200.

I imagine they would be sold in the millions worldwide.

Then the Chinese can rip them off and sell them for £25 and rust will then be something everyone remembers with a lol.

I’m buying one tomorrow, will I be able to use it on my Chinese diesel bike?

That is a smart bit of kit.
You’d need to be a serious car/bike restorer to be able to warrant buying one of those.

Ha, Chinese brand 1kW knockoff laser?

Yeah, first it'd take an hour to get it to work with some bullshit unnecessary bluetooth pairing, then it'd work once at which point it'd vaporize your whole bike and then explode taking your arm off in the process.

What we have here is an anti-CBF125 ray-gun.

"It's coming right for us!" pew-pew-pew. *Rider left stood in the road over a puddle of fuel and engine oil.*

1/4 of the price, 1/4 of the build quality, dangerous quality control. I bought a laser pointer 'Chinese import' low power, low power I specified, low power it said on the packaging.

You could engrave your name in car doors with it.

Yep, you are right. This is my job, I'm a senior expediter and quality control supervisor. I oversee various projects manufactured in China, and my giddy aunt, you see some real horrific stuff. I spend a lot of time in fabrication and machine shops, keeping an eye on stuff, but the other day i saw a brilliant one, a Chinese style welding torch.

Where he runs it over his hand looks serious inadvisable, if your skin was perfectly clean with no little scab or mole or dirt, you might be OK.
The way the laser actually lifts stuff away is by creating almost explosive plasma* under any surface layer.
If that happened on your hand there would be a near instantaneous big hole.

* A plasma is not anything very exotic: just a gas where the molecules have been excited enough that they have split into positive and negative ions. Visible flames are largely composed of plasma - the light being emitted when positive and negative ions recombine into a neutral molecule, and the spare energy comes out as light.

Chinaboy you'd cringe if you looked up what African home made welding sets look like.
I do dangerous things but even I wouldn't touch one.
