Trying to get the kickstart working on the 2008 Derbi Senda DRD Pro which he has just bought (no kickstart, no electric start - really usefull!). Managed to get the cover off to check out the kickstart mechanism and behind the kickstart bit is this random piece of what looks to be part of the spring. ... but both ends of the kickstart spring look and locate in their holes fine.

Any ideas - is there another spring that could have snapped...?

Also (sorry, not used to 50cc bikes) when i refit (ignoring the strange bit of metal spring above) the kickstart gear engages when first fitted, disappears back into it's hole as the kickstart returns, but then doesn't re-engage .... again, any ideas?

The rh side of it looks like something has broken off it.

Found out that it was the rear spring from another video, so good to get someone else to confirm it. Thanks for the video link also Meatybeaty.

I see what you mean. That's what i thought, however, i think it had just come off the back of the spline, it fits back all OK.

So now you know why part 7 is there and what it does or allows to happen, the movement of the gear along the spiral splines on the kick starter shaft, making the gear mesh for kick starting movement ot the "ENGINE" and release of the gear from "mesh".

Some designs have a coil spring and "ramp" to make this meshing ( and de meshing ) happen. Its a bit like a clutch but with slip.

It works all fine now?
