Peterborough isn't too bad - haven't lived there but have been loads of times over the last 10 years or so.

Huddersfield's best element (in my opinion) is it's real ale pubs; The Grove, The Sportsman and so many others worth doing a round on - I try and do a pub crawl once a year or so.

Trouble with these websites is that they are full of stories, opinions and comments by negative people who enjoy being negative about everything, everyone and every place.

Its quite a common personality trait these days the whole ( everything is shit) view. And no matter where your from every town in England will be run down to shit by these people.

And remember that while there ain't always no smoke without fire, it's only bad news and negative aspects that get reported, talked about or remembered.

True enough. However as far as i can tell there's been a steady decline in many of our cities and towns over the last few decades. I firmly believe we're in an unstoppable post industrial decline and in a generation that decline will become a fall.

The trouble with good news is its never anything that has much substance. The local community centre getting tarted up with money from an EU Grant does little to hold up against the tide of persistant decline in the community around that very community centre.

I live close to Blyth in Northumberland. Has anyone here ever heard it being described as the 'drugs capital of the UK'?

I've spent a lot of time in Northumberland over the years, and have been lead to believe by Geordie friends that Blyth, Ashington and Amble are all that way out. Never been out in Blythe but I have done the street in Ashington and dodged fights in Amble, and can't remember them being more druggy than anywhere else.

At some time or other the Daily Mail has described everywhere except Henley on Thames as the "drugs capital of the UK".
