Met a guy at the weekend who has one. He likes it, but he's not into 'fast' bikes. He says it struggles on the motorway. He said it is comfy and that's all I really got from him. He has sleeve tattoos and lives in London, so take from that what you will.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I got an up close look at one. Very 'on trend' for the pot holed roads of Hackney.

Lots of YouTubers in India seem to enjoy them and really push them, probably beyond their limits. But then over there, they are probably significantly cheaper. ABS and Catalytic Converter were mandatory for the EU market.

I was put off by the 24bhp engine, kerb weight and short service intervals.

If I had a garage, some more mechanical knowledge and enough cash, I'd have one as a Sunday afternoon toy.

As a daily ride, I'd give it a pass.

They seem to get decent reviews, and the ones I've seen seem to be pretty good. Royal Enfield do seem to be upping their game somewhat at the moment.

Under £2000 in India.
£4000 here on Treasure Island.

THat may well be the case, however, odds are, the indian ones are likely to be of a poorer quality, may not have abs etc..

When if first came out for the Indian market it had no ABS, catalytic converter. It also had a carburetor.

All this had to be added for Euro 4 (I think) compliance.

Add to that transport costs, Import/Export costs, VAT etc, easy to see how £2000 becomes £4000...

I'd be wary of reliability still; that said, I do think REs are characterful bikes. One of the retro classic REs (maybe a bullet?) pootled past me when I was stopped yesterday and it was like a sound from yesterday as it went past.

Just been looking them up online, and realised I saw one in the flesh yesterday, being ridden by someone in a white helmet. I hung behind it in Bourne End looking at it before overtaking and making good progress, and didn't know what it was. I think it was the metal panniers that threw me off - assumed it was a GS, with a thin rear tyre. Not a bad-looking bike from behind. Not sure how reliable this is, but a couple of web pages online say that in India ABS is a £120 optional extra. EFI is the other difference - I think the Indian market prefers carbs, but those aren't allowed or available over here. Transport costs are definitely a real added cost. However, not so sure that £2000 per unit extra to account for EFI, transport costs and a catalytic converter are entirely justified.

Mrs K tested one out last week, more comfortable than her ttr, better road manners and a lot of fun. However, not a bike for commuting over distance, but a bike you could happily ride all day if you didn't need to get anywhere quickly.

Sounds like someone I need to meet. Will probably end up in bed.

Number of friends in the local club have them, not ridden one myself yet. They like them for what they are, early release in India was plagued with quality issues, took ages for deliveries to start happening here, but seems to have sorted themselves out now.

Nathan Millward (of Oz to UK on a postie bike fame) reviews one here :-
