Just sounding out. Looks like a 6 month old Motobatt in the VFR has shit the bed. Point blank refuses to crank more than a turn or two when it's cold, and doesn't spin fast at all, even given the unseasonably warm weather. This is after charging the night before. Seller wants fuck all to do with it, and for £40, I CBA with small claims etc. Voltage out of the reg/rec is correct, 14.4 on the go. rests at 13.2, but drops like a whale that's suddently appeared in mid-air when you turn over.

So, what are my alternatives? Aside from Varta's offerings, I'm not really familiar with what's good, bad, and just rebadged.

2 year guarantee should be reputable concern.

Where did you get ytx12-bs from?

Yuasa would be my recommendation if you don't like Motobatt.

Where? He said he'd got a "VFR". After his post, it said which one ('96 VFR750). I plugged that into Tayma's search facility & it threw up the various choices including YTX12-BS.

Edit: interestingly: https://www.bike-parts-honda.com/honda-motorcycle/750-MOTO/VFR/1996/VFR750FT/Frame/BATTERY-VFR750FR-FS-FT-FV-/13MT4L41/F__2701/2/10272

As far asI'm concerned, all else (cranking current, etc) being reasonably equal, the length of guarantree is what does the deal.

I thought the price of them included a warranty of some kind.

It's not the first time I've heard bad things about them, thogh bad news does tend to spread easier Laughing

A lithium battery.

I fitted one to the TL 2 years ago. It can be left for 6 months not attached to a charger and start first time.

Both my bikes have them and I would t go back to a standard one now.

Weird - this is the VFR750 Tayna page and there's no Enduroline listed.

https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/f/honda/vfr750f-90-97/

I had an Enduroline on my Hornet and frankly, it was shite. Cheap, but shite. Very Happy

I got this:

https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/f/honda/vfr-750-fl-s/

I quite cheerfully admit I have no idea how a vfr750f may differ from a vfr-750-fl-s

How did you find out your battery was shite? Did it pack up, or leak? That's why I look at the guarantee/CCA.

It just didn't last that long despite regular maintenance charging over winter.

As did I. Seller pretty much fucked me off (Busters/M&P). It's not the first bad experience I've had with them recently, so they can sit on the list of people I won't buy stuff from.

Lithium - "No trickle charging", for various defintions of trickle charging. Even cheapo half-assed BMS's in lithium packs I'm used to can deal with all sorts of current and voltages, so what's the crack?

Battery guarantees are best from somewhere like Halfords because the mongs behind the counter can't be bothered to argue with you as the money is not coming out of their pocket.

I too had a Motobatt which shit the bed within a year. Highly overrated IMO.
Going against the general opinion here but I bought the cheapest, budget, tackiest battery I could find, 2 1/2 years ago for my bike and its just as good as the day I got it.
Note that I keep my battery on a tender over winter, never let it run down.
I believe it is this brand:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PTX12-BS-Powerline-Motorcycle-Bike-Battery-Replaces-YTX12-BS/273169561451?fits=UKM_Submodel%3AC800%7CUKM_Make%3ASuzuki&epid=2287723415&hash=item3f9a2cb76b:g:laIAAOSwat5bapsG:rk:6:pf:0

Outlasted all of the 'big brands' thus far.

M&P can kiss my arse after they sold me 'biker braces' that were
cheap ass shite I could have bought from Ebay for a quarter of the price (and did).

Anyway Li-ions can be fussy even with in built BMS
They dont like ripple voltages below a certain frequency and ripple voltage magnitude>10% as it can cause internal heating.
Some smart chargers may sometimes apply voltage outside the range
the BMS likes and possibly a desulphating ( pulsing) charge which can give a Li-on conniptions.

I like that Smile It's £1 cheaper buying from Tayna "direct", rather than eBay!
