Both suspensions are 37mm, but mine is 125mm travel distance and the EX500 is 130 mm. |
State the year of your ER5 and the year of the EX500/GPZ500S whose forks you want to swap.
I entered 1999 as the year for both bikes into Fowlers parts. The "fork inner" i.e. the 37mm stanchions are the same part number (44013) if both bikes are '99. The ER5 definitely had different fork stanchion diameters in later years, so be wary and check first.
Both of those bikes came with different fork bottoms in later years, I believe. Double disc brake, etc. But, if both bikes were from 1999, the 37mm fork inner (stanchion) would be exactly the same.
First check the year of the donor bike's fork, then check the stanchion was also part 44013 in that year. Then rebuild your ER5 forks using the new stanchion (as I assume this must be bent or pitted, which is why you want to replace) and the original (old) ER5 fork bottoms and fork internals, albeit with new fork oil, seals, dust seals and bushes. |
