You get specialised mobiles with 4-5 programmable large oversized buttons that can be custom written or drawn on and a green call and red hang up button and even an emergency call button.

I’m not sure what condition medical or otherwise would enable someone to lift a handset receiver and push buttons on a box but not be able to hold or use a device the same size with the buttons on it instead.

I apologise if you feel that I am being insensitive.

I'll guess the relative is probably elderly and not particularly techie?
and the fixed set corresponds best to what they're used to and what they can relate to.
