My Superlight originally had the remnants of the usual unusable eBay bar end mirrors so I stripped them off and mounted actual legal mirrors instead Smile

So now I have these holes on the end of the handlebars... what to do? Hmm... LEDS!

These things have wires for ground, amber LEDs and white LEDs. I've wired the white up to DRL and amber to the respective indicator wires. Works, sorta. Problem is, when turning, the lights just alternate between white and white + amber - barely noticeable Sad

I've considered a NC relay on the DRL link controlled from the turn signal indicator bulb (active whichever way you turn) but that just means alternating white/amber which is only marginally better.

What would be perfect is cutting the DRL white LEDs completely while the indicators are *active* (but not necessarily on) i.e. still off between flashes.

Any ideas?

How about you don't do it at all. It'll look fucking stupid.

A matter of opinion Smile Quite a lot of my non-biker friends think they look good and these are the mutton-heads pulling out of junctions in giant, 2-ton metal boxes without looking.

To be fair, I've seen cruisers with those on... in black leather. Which doesn't look daft at all!

Black leather tassels would match your black leather chaps. Thumbs Up

This. You may as well have a bright pink neon sign pointing at you with "Noob!" lit up.

However, if you really must...
Personally would look at 74xx series logic. You'll need a timer of some sort as well. 555 is readily available. These type of chips cost, literally, pennies each. Tehat's why I wqould use these. You'll realise it's shit, and junk them. You don't want to sink cash into a project like that.

Upon impulse from indicators, it nukes the DRL's, and starts a timer. If no pulse is recieved within say, 2 seconds (longer is an MOT fail) it puts them back on, if pulse, keep off.

I'm not doing it for you, but it's not difficult to do.

You could do it quite simply with 2x PCB (cos dey is well small innit) mini SPDT relays
1 per side
NC contacts feed DRL at ignition on until pulse from flasher switches it on and
cuts power to the DRL LED as it supplies the Amber LED via the NO contacts.

I've used them for heavier loads than flashers
IIRC, the coil is about 270 ohms so will only draw say 40-50 mA-ish from the flasher circuit
to activate the relay

DO IT!

The road ahead is clear

I get ideas like that too, sometimes... Latest thing on the bay that caught my eye was a cafe racer seat hoop with built-in LED stop and back lights and indicators. LOL no I'm not going to do it.

Take a deep breath as many times as needed for the ideas to go away, then buy some decent chain wax, more oil, stuff to rebuild your forks, sprocket and chain set or something. You'll always need that stuff.

Indicators and mirrors are like this: the better they look (especially in pictures), the worse they work, and vice versa. My mirrors, for example, look really fucked up but they work even better than the stock ones.

Just fit proper bar ends. Heavy as you can find. They absorb vibration.

My biggest concern with bar end lights or DRLs is that they could appear in the dark to look like a car that's further away, rather than extra lighting on the motorcycle?

^^this... I hadn't thought of! Hmmm...

With regards to weighted ends, seriously?! Is it going to make that much difference to this bike? Anyhoo, I couldn't find any for 25mm (1" in old money) everything seems to be 22mm (7/8") Sad

NVM, I've found some 25mm ends. I might put the LED ends on the ebike I'm building.
