So the Digital Economy Act from 2017 appears to be coming into effect from next month regarding accessing porn sites.

You will be required to provide Age verification through either Passport, Driver License or Credit Card.

Jokes on them though, erosion of my rights and censorship is my fetish.

Those VPN's will be getting more of a workout.

If only we had an IT expert to explain all the different ways to get around it.

Anyone know of one?

No-one in the UK posesses a "Driver License".

As opposed to putting the only test you were able to pass after yours? Laughing

Do you know any IT experts who could explain to the rest of us how we could get around it?

I knew this was coming years ago. I prepared for it and began making my own movies - anyone want to see one?

As always there will be a way around stuff like this. Just means we'll have to actually 'do it' until a new access method can be sorted.
Is this just applying to the UK? Is it the EU too or is it world wide?

It's already been delayed numerous times over the last few years so don't be surprised if it gets delayed again.

You'll be able to buy cards rather than handing over your personal details for the AgeID system from MindGeek, the PortesCard will cost a fiver and will be available in the shops. Laughing

There will be a strong black market for those cards as long as you're not bothered about going into shops and asking for 100 of the PortesCards.

It's supposed to start 1st April, nothing else much going on at end of March is there?
In both cases nobody seems to know what will actually happen. If anything.

The entire thing is a farce under the guise of save the children, the kicker is most of them are exposed to it via channels they can't control. It's besides the point of why or when, the real issue is that they think they can.

Fucking nanny state, control the subservient, let criminals run amok.

I sound like herzinger or whatever his name is now Laughing

Most of them [kids] are exposed to it via channels they can't control? They are? Laughing

Some will be downloading from torrents or similar but aren't most getting their porn from pornhub et al?

A lot of it is through channels like reddit/whatsapp/snapchat which will not be affected by this at all. They will also be targeting the bigger hosting companies, but what about the millions of smaller ones.

There's a reason they keep delaying it, because it's fucking stupid and they can't enforce it properly.

It's what happens when you get pensioners making decisions about technology they don't even understand.

https://www.wired.co.uk/article/porn-block-uk-wired-explains

Quote:
6. There isn’t even a good reason
The policy was launched off the back of an NSPCC report that claimed that more than half of children and teenagers that accessed porn “stumbled across” it. Sure, when they Googled “porn” and accidentally “stumbled across” the top link...

The irony is that, if children are going to stumble across porn, then it’s probably going to be on social media – but this legislation doesn’t cover Reddit or Twitter. I mean, it shouldn’t, but it just shows how flawed this line of thinking is.

The same report also found that almost a tenth of all 12- to 13-year-olds thought they were "addicted" to pornography, a stat which got a lot of press at the time. And the media attention clearly fed into the government’s agenda, because, less than a day after the research was released, the legislation was suddenly announced. The problem was, the research was nonsense. Rubbish. Bad science.

The NSPCC had commissioned the research from a “creative market research” group called OnePoll, a survey firm which pays people to fill in online questionnaires. You may know it from such gems as "German men are the world's worst lovers" and "Fifty percent of British adults think Mount Everest is in the UK". There were 11 questions, for children, so users were told to hand over to a child if one was available. Which of course they all did.

Evidence-based policymaking this is not. Instead, it seems more like a politically-motivated moral crusade, based on some weird sense that the internet is scary and bad and dangerous, and things would be so much better if only we could go back to the good old days, when porn magazines was safely tucked away on the top shelf of your local newsagents, where they’re meant to be.

It's probably not in the millions, there are 2070 studios on the largest porn video clip site in the world and whilst there'll be loads of amateur porn people who run their own websites, the numbers can't be that big. Laughing

All those small producer are already being fucked over by Mindgeek so the porn block means those producers will be even more fucked by Mindgeek.

Channels like reddit will be amongst the first to be hit. Whatsapp and Snapchat aren't websites so they're safe.

I agree that it's going to be impossible to enforce in any meaningful way, at some point they're going to have to stop delaying it and let it run its course. Same as what they did with blocking torrent sites, they just want to be seen to be doing something.

The £5 PortesCards could be very profitable. Laughing Laughing
