The guy who scoot I sometimes work on was rear ended
by a dozy twat
Not his fault
It shoved the numberplate sub frame in so far its jammed the back wheel and it had to be recovered
Pics were taken insurance details swapped

The assessor is coming too look at it tomorrow and he's just realised the back tyre is probably not legal
I did warn him about it a while back and he said he'd actually bought one but hadn't got around to getting it fitted

So, is he automatically screwed or might he get away with it?

Free up the backend with a crowbar, tell the assessor the tyre was knackered so you put an old wheel on just to make it more convenient to push around the workshop. Or something.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it

Its visable tread on a scooter anyway so as long as it's not completely bald should be ok

It's nowhere near me and he's out of town for now so I suppose we'll find out tomorrow or soon.
Last time I saw it the side tread was easily visible but the centre line was nearly gone.

It didn't contribute to the accident at all, he said was riding about 20 following a line of traffic when the guy just drove right into the back of him.
Fecker was probably fiddling with his phone

No injuries luckily but it was his delivery scoot and he's not earning
so hope he doesn't get screwed over it.

So, the insurance co wrote it off just on pics and have offered him 1100 quid and he can buy it back for £58
Apart from scratches and some broken plastics, the only damage I can see is the two thin tubes that support the numberplate assembly plastics on have been push over and jammed the back wheel
( I know, bent sub frame innit?)

As he's fretting over what he can buy for a grand to replace it I suggested he let me fix it good but ugly and carry on regardless
as at least he knows what he's got

Question:
what are the hoops he might have to jump through to do this?
It's a 2018 scoot but would he need to get an MOT anyway?

If it's a Cat S or N, any insurance company will likely want a new MOT, irrespective of age. Depending on insurance company, it may need an "Engineers report".

Mine got a Cat N last year when it was pikied. Engineers report, MOT, and it's still used for work every day. No new log book, as I was buying it back, they didn't want to have it. They did want a pic of it, and various keys.

If they've classed it as frame damage, and Cat B'd it - it's spares only.

He offered to pass it on me for the £58 but the poor sod seems to have no luck with bikes/scoots and harry skinters at the mo.
I've no use for it and told him to pocket the insurance dosh and fix/tart it up cos its otherwise quite useable and was running well.
He keeps me busy.
His YBR125 broke down today cos the rear wheel sprocket bearing collapsed. he got it recovered here and I'll sort that first.
Nice bike but not suitable for flitting about Bristol delivering curry and pizza IMO

I've NEVER been asked for a re-not or engineers report for a cat c or d. If the third parties insurers are paying it's unlikely yours will care

Just found out the other day its a Cat B so scrap/spares only and it's in Bristol.
Seems ridiculous to me as apart from plastics, it's only a 'bent subframe' ie two skinny tubes hanging off the rear of the main frame that hold the number plate assembly in place.
Ida fixed that pretty quickly.
They classed it as a cat B based on photos alone. go figure.
