Hi all,

Asked a few weeks ago about what bike and need to ask for yet more advice! A lot of biking websites are vague around the topic but I'm looking for another 125cc bike to save on costs travelling in London. I live within the ULEZ and recently looked at a YBR from 2007, only to be told that it doesn't meet emissions standards.

Anyone got a clear picture on what year bikes are affected by the ULEZ and how to avoid it? Better yet, any advice on a bike that will keep insurance for a 23 year old low?

All help appreciated, kind regards

Who told you it doesn't meet the emissions standard?

Have you tried the onlie ULEZ vehicle checker?

My 57 plate YBR isn't subject to the ULEZ

I was looking at an 07 YBR, checked its plate and apparently it is subject to the charge? Hence why I'm confused

It being FI is probably OK but if the checker says no you have to get a certificate of conformity fro Yamaha £60 and then get TFL to list the bike as passing

Even if your vehicle "fails" the ULEZ database lookup you should get hold of your specific model details.

For example, I know someone with an old BMW car that, according to the "official" databases is EURO3 but he successfully proved that, had BMW submitted it for EURO4 testing it would have passed. Okay, so a bit of an edge case but the database can be challenged.
