Hello all,

Looking for advice on a strange failure on my bike.

I rode my bike for about 15 minutes, went to a shop, came out went to turn my bike on and completely dead. I was stranded a mile from home when this first happened and resorted to pushing it home, every 5 minutes with the ignition switched to ON the speedo would suddenly power up and it would start as expected, about 5 minutes of it running it will completely shut off again, display off everything dead. It did this the whole way home suddenly coming to life and dying. When it powers ON it cranks and starts very well, just as normally expected.

Will be getting the multimeter on it tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has seen this or has an idea as to the fault?

It is a 2014 Honda CB 500 f, with 100k miles.

Will update as I go, thanks for any help.

Could be a brittle loom which is cutting out everything. with the motor running and the relevant panels or seat off, wriggle the wires around and try to duplicate the problem. Check the connections on the back of the ignition key and wiggle the key. Follow the live from the battery. I love those problems.

Check that your (bike's) battery terminals are tight.

At only 5 years young i would check the battery voltage the morning after also when switching on and when cranking and also with the engine running.
I suspect the battery is ok but the charging system in non.

had exactly the same issue on my CBF600.
for me it was poor connections with the main fuse.

Sounds like a heat issue.

Thin wires and poor connections have a certain resistance and this resistance only goes up as you add heat: either from the engine, from the current running or both.

Pull up the circuit diagram and check all the wires associated with the ignition system with your multimeter. Bonus if you can disconnect and check the wire in isolation (i.e. unplugged at both ends.)

Might also be work checking the wiring for the fuel injector.

I can't think of anything else that drains much power continually outside the lighting.
