Anyone had experience of cheapo amazon bike alarms, insurance says i need an alarm fitted if i want to claim in the event of a theft but i dont wanna break the bank for something everyone will ignore.

Do a search for NCS alarms: relatively cheap, pre-wired for your particular bike and apparently, if you use their fitting service, good for insurance.

Fitted on of their cheapos to my bike and it's pretty much like I had a factory one fitted - dead easy.

Everyone ignores alarms unless it sounds like theirs.

Do you insurance documents say anything about what type of alarm you're required to have and who it needs to be fitted by?

Don't waste money on buying an alarm if it's not what the insurer wants.

I don't need an alarm for insurance I just wanted something that made a noise when it's parked outside my house. A 4:30am alarm, so to say.

If you know anything about bike electrics fitting an alarm is trivial but somehow I don't think WhatsApping a piccy to your insurers will cut it Sad That's the bit you'll have to ask your insurers about.

When insurers want proof about a vehicle having an alarm fitted, that proof usually comes in the form of paperwork you get from the Thatcham Recognised Installer after they've fitted the alarm to your vehicle.

But before worrying about what proof you need to show that your bike had been fitted with an alarm, you need to get more details about what type of alarm is required. Thumbs Up

This will all be in your policy documents, who are you insured by?
