Hello to all. Heading back to Scotland for a visit after 7 years away. Looking for a great run to do starting and finishing in or near Edinburgh. Time is a bit of a factor, so looking at two days/one night or three days/two nights at the absolute most. Its been so long since I've ridden back home, and would love to get as much time on the road as possible.
Any suggestions/routes would be greatly appreciated!

Quite tough, but things I would absolutely tick off are Lomond to Glencoe is pretty epic. Applecross pass is a must too.

I would personally do something like Edinburgh to Fort William via Lomond day 1, Day 2 fort William to applecross, go up it, and come back down it and go south and stay on Skye. Then Skye back to Edinburgh via Cairngorms.

Its tough to squeeze it all in, as that is still missing out a ton of the best roads on the west coast. That is probably what I would go for though. ~ 5 hours riding each day +1-2 for food/fuel.

Day 1

Edinburgh, Creiff, Tyndrum, Glencoe, Fort William, Invergarry, Strathcarron, Achnasheen,

Stop at Ullapool or Durness for the night.

Day 2

Durness, Tongue, Altnaharra, Lairg, Tain, Inverness, Nairn, Granton on Spey, Tomintoul, Braemar, Spittal of Glenshee, Perth, Edinburgh.

That lot will keep you out of trouble!

Make sure you have lots of tread on your tyres, they will be doing protracted high speeds on very high grip road surfaces.

Stinkwheels route looks good to me. Personally I feel loch Lomond is overcrowded, filled with speed traps and the roads around it aren't even that great. Much better stuff to be had further north and other parts of the Trossachs.

The A93/939 before heading west towards tomatin and down to laggan is good, or further over and down via the east side of loch Ness. Either route can take you to join stinkwheels. Just avoid the a9 where you can.

As a Scot living and riding in Scotland, I'd definitely give Stinkwheel's route a big thumbs up. Some of the best roads I've ever ridden and lucky for me, they're right on my doorstep.

2 great days riding Thumbs Up
