LED brake light replacement...

Was thinking of replacing my normal bulb (combined rear/brake) with one of these as I'm told they won't blow like a normal brake light.
However, looked up in the catalogue and it was printed "not for road use". Can anyone please clarify this?

it's because this kind of light is not approved by your transportation minister . look for one which is . if you find one you must change the all thing at the back . i do not know which bike you own , but have a look https://www.motorrad-bach.de/ it's in german but may be you will find an idea

If they're not legal for road use for whatever reason then they print that as a kind of disclaimer a bit like race exhausts not being road legal. As long as it works and it is red I can't actually see it being a problem really. It is not road legal as it hasn't been approved, don't know why this is as it could be something like it failed the tests because it isn't bright enough or something trivial like it isn't a normal bulb and they failed it on some technicallity of no real reason. Ring them up and ask them why they're not road legal.

One problem with LED bulbs is that they are directional, so will not be as visable from the side and will also fail to illuminate the numberplate (unless you have a seperate bulb for the numberplate).

Well around my area, the Arriva busses have all been fitted with LED rear lights and indicators so they cant be that illigal.
In most Bike shops there is now a Clustor bulb, it basically is a bulb which plugs into your rear light (no adjustments) but it has a flat surface and there is about 10 LED bulbs on it. looks good and it only costs £7.

Just for interest sakes, as far as I know you can have an LED brake light but not a tail light. Apparently the law stipulates that the tail light must have a filament bulb, a rule which was brought in to prevent continued used of acetylene lamps (which are fecking dangerous). LEDs hadn't even been thought of back then...but they have no filament which means the cannot be marketed for road use.

And don't forget it is a legal requirement to have reflector built in to the lamp even if another reflector is used as well
