Maybe it's time to buy a proper bike and not a relic that should have died in the 50s?

Did you not have a modern bike that burnt more oil than Red Adair could cope with and blew up as a result? Wink

Older machines are easy to repair and maintain as long as you have a bit of skill , knowledge and fineness, you obviously have none of those! ,

Funny how this is going off on a bit of a tangent, sort of?
I agree with Mr Tankie on this one, older bikes are easier to repair.

All my bikes that had drum brakes (no oil seals involved/callipers) were easy to sort out and fix .
I never had a drum brake fail.
All my older bikes that never had fairings were much much easier to work on.
Cable operated clutch = not so terrible, hydraulic operated clutch = oh dear!

And so on.

No, it blew up because I was running an engine that was preped for the Manx GP and had 10k miles on it after that......

The bit about burning oil was true, but then they all did.

There again. How many jap bikes would it be worth repairing a blown motor on at 80k miles.

Once this rebuild's done, the engine should be good for the same again. I paid £1,400 for this bike 9 years ago so I'm not going to grudge it this work.

Perversely, once it's fixed and in vaguely neat light trials trim, it'll probably be worth more than I paid for it.

Absolutely, I'm right behind you on this issue, it's only a dropped valve and in the process you've found other hidden problems, all to be fixed in one hit. Thumbs Up
