Diggs comments about checking for bombs reminds me of the film 'Hunger'.

Strongly recommend it if you've not seen it before. It shows things from both sides, and the scene with Michael Fassbender (Bobby Sands) and Liam Cunningham is epic.

The irony is that I ended up marrying into an Irish Catholic family where the Grandad used to be a member of the IRA. My mother-in-law can remember her father hiding guns under piles of leaves in the garden, and being asked to keep lookout when they met at the house...

Not something I'd be boasting about in England, but maybe that's just me?

Nobody here boasting... The old bugger was long dead before I met the family. My lot put them away rather than helped them, hence having to check the car for bombs as a kid.

Your figures paint a very simplistic view of a complicated situation. They don't take into account all the other nonsense from groups like the Ulster Freedom Fighters and the Ulster Volunteers, who between them killed more Irish than the British army ever did.

Seems like the ride out went through without a hitch.

I'm only guessing that because haven't heard anything about it on MSM so presumably nothing kicked off.

BUT

"A group of climate change protesters from the ‘Youth Strike 4 Climate’ demonstration, that had just finished in Parliament Square, stared aghast as mirrored exhaust pipes belched smoke."
