Hi! New at the forum:)
I have a 84 vf750 and when I started it up for the first time this year neither the speedo or the rpm gauge works. Everything else in the dash works.
Does anybody have any tip on what it could be or where I should start looking?
It also doesn't respond well on throttle, sounds like it doesn't get enough. Cleaned the fuel switch and ordered new spark plugs. Let it run til it got warm and I became a little better then. I'll change the plugs and see how it acts then before I do anything else.
But the speedo and rpm gauge had been nice to fix:)

Not familiar with your bike but I'm pretty sure it's a cable operated speedo. So check the ends of the cable are screwed in properly.

If that's all ok, undo the ckock end and turn the wheel while holding the end of the cable. If it turns, the clock is dead. If it doesn't either the cable or speed drive is bust.

I think the tacho is electronic so it's an entirely different issue to the speedo. They usually have three wires. A live, an earth and a signal. So you can check for 12v in the live, you can check for continuity to ground in the earth. Then you can check for end-to-end continuity in the wire between the CDI and the clock. if that's all ok, I'd suspect the clock itself.

How long has it been sat not running for? Could there be stale fuel? Is it running on all 4 (do the header pipes get hot)?

Worth noting that some bikes will not run properly unless the rev counter is connected and working properly. I suspect this is a little sophisticated for the age of your bike but it's worth mentioning.
