Got this in 2012 at about 35k miles. Removed from bike at 108k and has been sitting in cold shed for three weeks - I did attempt a quick charge but within 10 seconds it stopped saying full. I have bought a new one for the cbr6, the plan being this will go in a 125 that will see mhch less use. Using an imax b8 charger to test set at 2.2A.

Mbtx9u is rated 10Ah (over a 20 hour discharge), so I was interested to see what it had left.

Although a longtime advocate of motobatt I do read occasional gripes...no problems myself.

Yeah, motobatt do seem a bit hit and miss, I've had 1 good, and 1 bad one..

Buy from a reputable supplier and they last ages, buy from the cheapest supplier on ebay and you end up with some fake shite that lasts about as well as a rob hunter battery. Laughing

Got mine from Busters's (M&P) ebay site. It's shit itself in under 6 months. Guess what? M&P & Motobatt both kept saying take it up with each other, then M&P just plain blocked me. Got a refund, eventully, but only because I got Paypal involved. They were not the cheapest, by some margin. M&P have some truly shocking service since it was sold. When iot was Mail order, it was, for the most part, fine.

I put the cheap Powerline back in it that it replaced, and it fired straight up after a charge.

M&P are 100% at fault in this case.
The manufacturers make stuff and sometime a few units fail.
M&P made their money on it then didn't want to honour the warranty 'agreement.
I don't need to buy anything from those pricks not. 👍

ive had two motobatts both from M&P fail and have some that have been fine since ive had them, from M&P

I have never had any problems with brand new Yuasa batteries, only issues with Yuasa batteries ive had is when they have been on a bike 3+ years with an alarm attached.

If i had to buy brand new id most likely get a Yuasa or Motobatt but nothing else

ur advice on the reg rec was a proper big help but no my moto batt failure on the R1 was separate to the two failures,
one was case of got the brand battery put it on the optimate charger overnight then put in bike then nothing would start the bike

second was brand new battery didnt put it on charge and it wouldnt start the bike

other times the motobatts ive had from from new have been fine and worked perfectly

the one that failed on my R1 was cos the reg rec connector had badly corroded which caused a faliure but that was not the motto batts fault

ive had cased where ive bought bikes and within 2 months the batterys failed and these were yuasas hence why i now hate alarms with a dedicated passion

but the good news is that meta alarms have an alarm bypass unit so u can remove the alarm and just plug the by pass unit in with no need to you remove the wiring and if u want the alarm back in u can just plug the alarm unit back in

I bought an optimate on the basis of reading reviews.
Fucked a battery using it as it was not actually feeding 12v to the battery only 6v.

I stopped using it and bought a Hein Gerrike unit, That failed after two years. Intermittent use.
I now only use Ctec. I have had a Ctek on the K1300 for six years and it has not missed a beat. (Of course I remove the leads when I take the bike out of the garage.)

It suggests a quality control or transit issue which is unfortunate as one of the strengths they were originally sold on was good quality control.

The alarm problem is an interesting one. I have said previously that people should service alarms. For instance people wait until the internal battery is dead before replacing it and all the while it pulls more and more power.
I consider alarms to have a 3 year working life and anything beyond that is a bonus, afterall how long do people expect a mobile phone to work for?

I also fit alarms in a plug in fashion, its a bit of extra work but makes it easy to remove and replace them and can still be done to Thatcham standard.
