It's a mystery to me why a few of those being pissed off don't kick their arses.
There's only about 20 with 2x that number of media causing mayhem

No borders, no nations, no gas power stations. Laughing

Has a nice ring to it Thumbs Up

Natural gas fired power stations are the cleanest fossil fuel power stations going. What do they want, coal fired, oil fired?

I know, nuclear Dance! Cool

India can't afford to clean up their act, they've got a space program to fund!

BTW... apart from being traitors they're also immensely stupid:

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/climate-change-activists-target-wrong-building-as-they-protest-against-energy-company-in-city-of-a4201276.html

Can we have protestor-fired power stations? Not like anyone would miss this lot!

And point of order: not everyone in Surrey has a mansion. I only have a 2-bedroom house overlooking the green...

There will need to be some serious improvements in collection/storage of 'renewable power' before it becomes viable ;

Solar power is fine if you have lots of sun, e.g. California, all the year round but everything else I've seen (wind turbines, hydroelectric) are just horrendous environmental nightmares.

How does it make any sense to do away with things that damage the ecosystem slowly (e.g. gas power stations) and replace them with things that massacre animals and insects immediately?

"In June 2017, renewables plus nuclear generated more UK power than gas and coal together for the first time" (source: "Wikipedia"; there are other sources).

It's growing. I think we need a lot more nuclear, plus domestic and industrial heat pump installations.

Or scrapping perfectly good petrol cars, to create years worth of extra carbon emissions building electric cars, fitted with toxic batteries?

The manufacture of these electric cars and batteries are in other countries, so politicians can say we're cutting emissions here.
For European Manufacturers it's now commonplace for them to have the more polluting portions of their cars manufactured outside the EU.
Many have parts manufacturing plants in China, India, Indonesia etc.

Consumerism culture is bad enough with things like old toasters but cars?! That's a substantial piece of machinery to throw away after 10 years or so! And most of the time there's nothing wrong with such a car mechanically it's things like the ULEZ that make them obsolete Sad

Mandatory EFI kits and subsidised cats would surely be better than scrappage schemes. And whatever happened to Autogas conversions?

I wouldn't be surprised if next year's climate change protests were sponsored by the Nissan Leaf. Big fecking conspiracy Evil or Very Mad

10 years old...

Laughing If you drive a diesel vehicle older than 2015 into Bath you'll soon have to pay a daily eco charge. Only
the most eco, up to date diesel vehicles will be allowed in for free. So diesels become environmentally obsolete
within 4 years then, and if you can't afford something newer, then TOUGH!! We'll charge you a tenner a day
just so you can go earn your wage (minus the new TAX imposed upon it of course) in your old car. Ultimately meaning
poorer folks will never be able to upgrade anyway as their spare dough is soaked up in charges. An utter pisstake, and
why it's petrol for me from now on. I wonder how long it is before diesel owners start suing the manufacturers for
knowingly mis selling products with a very small window of penalty free use.

"Congratulations sir, your car has just passed its very first MOT with flying colours, unfortunately it's now classed
as too dirty for our roads, well not without a couple of grand in Bath Councils bin every year if you actually want to
use it to get to work each day anyway. That'll be just the £54.85 for the MOT then please..."
Ludicrous!! I'll bet
there are a fair few out there who have bought a car that is environmentally obsolete even before it's been fully paid for.

But why the obsession with "renewables" they aren't cheaper than conventional power generation methods and aren't kind to the environment.

Because they SOUND better.

Wind power, solar, hydro - free renewable energy, but at a different cost.

I have solar on my boat. Its convenient when I'm not attached to shore but it is incredibly inefficient. I will never get into profit compared with the cost of shore power.

Wind power is obvious. Wind farms have been proved to totally screw up birds navigation but they don't advertise the fact. I wonder why?

https://www.birdlife.org/worldwide/news/new-study-pinpoints-birds-prey-hardest-hit-wind-farms

Hydro is the best for power output but the ecological damage from something like the Aswan dam is still being discovered.

https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=664429

But hey, my diesel engined boat is going to kill babies stone dead and my diesel engined Jag, well, that will kill them before conception.

Must be true, Greta Thunberg insinuated it. (maybe) Praying

I suspect the police are there more to prevent that, than to prevent Tarquin & Co from causing any harm.

There were probably as many police there as there were protestors

The last straw:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49234054

tl;dr Maccy D used to supply straws made of plastic that could be recycled. To save the planet they've been replaced with paper straws that can't be recycled.

The meme going round on Facebook and elsewhere:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mcdonalds-Plastic-Straw-/183797548434

I'd like to know how the changeover from plastic to paper straws has affected the pollution in, for example, Fujian.

And I've still yet to hear why we should be "saving the planet."

"We need to preserve the environment to safeguard future generations!"

Really? I haven't heard of any plans to re-engineer humans at the genetic level so I think it's safe to assume the next generation will just be as spiteful and selfish as the previous thousand or so.

It's ok. The plastic ones were probably being "recycled" by being shipped to the far east and dumped in a river or mysteriously self combusting.
