Madness, to try and re-invent the wheel when there's a perfectly usable eco-friendly, electrically powered wheel already rolling around!

That went well in Edinburgh, not.

In line with a policy of bears shitting in woods and popes being catholic the Orange Devilâ„¢ has come out to decry "climate prophets of doom."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-51189430

Why even bother reporting the reaction of Green activists at Davos Very Happy

Ofc it gives the BBC an opportunity to infer how the Trumpet is playing the wrong tune with a graph of world temperatures from the 1800's:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f8/Global_Temperature_Anomaly.svg

Look at that! LOOK AT IT!!! We're all doomed, doomed I tells ya!

But if we have a look a bit further back:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/EPICA_temperature_plot.svg

Oh dear, looks like we're hitting the peak before an ice age Shocked

Never mind, apparently the world is burning according to Greta which seems to be an extremely poor choice of words for any Australian delegates. Still, need to start the purge somewhere. We need at least 5 billion people gone before the end of 2020 if we're to meet her targets Twisted Evil

It's such a simple trick to exaggerate the vertical axis - also be sure to cherry pick your start date.
It helps to have a team working on reducing the unfortunate pre-1950s warming which has miraculously been made to look insignificant in that graph

Today is interesting on gridwatch, we have about 22GW of wind turbines but they are producing about 3GW
https://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/
We are importing more than that from French nuclear.
Gas is doing about 60% of demand.
So you could double the number of turbines and it would still be power cuts without the gas and nuclear base.

They are wanting to do away with home gas boilers and electrify the transport network too.
How is that going to work then.

I see JLR are laying off no doubt Brexit will be blamed but more likely people are thinking if they buy a car now in less than ten years the doomers will have them banned from driving it at least into any built up area.

Interesting programme with Chris Packham on the global population.

Nothing really new but at least mainstream talking about having to reduce (or cull) the human population.

Supposing there was a cull and they decided to reduce the population by roughly 10% by dividing us into groups of 10 then having the group select one person to die, if you did not choose the whole group would die.

How would you decide who died?

As an intellectual exercise it should be the most useless members of society. Would you be told anything about the people you have to choose from? That way we could make an informed decision.

After that I suppose the oldest but would that alleviate anything as they will die soon anyway. I'm not sure.

Then it would be tribalism, or racism if you want. The majority groups would vote the minority ones out. A good way to ethnically cleanse your country.

Seriously of course it's never going to happen. Anyone suggesting it wouldn't last 5 minutes but what happens when there comes a point where the numbers of starving people can't be contained and society starts to break down under the strain. Who knows.

You're describing "decimation" the most extreme method of discipline employed by ancient Roman Legions. Intentional? I'm surprised no one's mentioned "The Purge" yet Very Happy

With regards to population control, only two things are required: a ban on artificial fertilisers (the majority of the nitrogen in your body has been fixed in a chemical plant) and a ban on powered (ICE or electric) agricultural equipment. Take away those two things and half the world population will stave to death.

Give it a generation - see how it goes - and maybe restrict medication to raise the child mortality rate if needed.

Easy stuff, could be done tomorrow! Solves all the problems: reduces green house gasses, increases employment (more farm labourers) just need ~3 billion people to starve to death Twisted Evil

That is what nature is desperately trying to do, look at the the new coronavirus, let nature do it's work, not everyone who catches it will die. Likewise, why are trying to constantly fight famine, cure cancer etc, yes, treat deceses that aren't life limiting, and, do your best to improve the quality of those living with life limiting diseases, but, don't try and cure them, or extend their life. Left to it's own devices, nature will restore a balance

The number of times members of this Forum have poo-poo'd my doomsday prediction of us returning to a feudal society where the internal combustion engine is no longer available for transport... This is precisely what will happen, and our population will reduce dramatically as the shift takes effect because we will neither grow enough food nor have the foresight to be able to transport what we do grow to urban areas without Eddie Stowbart and his pals.

I predict a lot more shoplifting and babies left on hospital steps before supply meets demand again.

This is precisely why we need MDMA back. He would put the counter argument that technology will save the day and that it is all the fault of darkies. To add gravitas to his view he would also state that I am a snowflake, tree-hugging, gin swilling liberal-commie, woke secret lemonade drinker.... or something along those lines.

MDMA thank you for the 'abusive' rating for my last comment. Which bit is untrue and how does this constitute abuse towards your person?

There's that new "Cobra" thing on the BBC (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10062652/)

The plot reminds me of an Eagle comic (early in the revival days) story "The Tower King" where a new orbital solar array was meant to beam power by focused microwave down to a collector. The satellite went wrong and somehow (sci-fi artistic licence) bathed most of Europe in a sort of continuous EMP-style distortion that meant nothing electrical would work.

Needless to say London rewound back to the Dark Ages in short order. Quite an entertaining tale IIRC where various groups retreat to London landmarks - The Tower of London being the main one in the story.
