I keep saying this. Yes, the 1st world is guilty of a large carbon footprint but every human on the planet wants that lifestyle and that's why China has such envoinmental problems. A billion+ people of which the majority expect 1st world lifestyle and therefore 1st world infrastructure.

China, the only country in the world that tried population control and as well as push back from insid the country had all the world bleating about it's violation of the human right to breed.

We will reap what we sow and unless we can develop an unlimited clean power source we will supply enough to keep the masses happy. That's just power. Then bring in food and water...........

One day are we going to see a 'Logans run society'. Euthanise everyone over 70 or who isn't productive.

Or was that tried in the past and called National Socialism.

There is a difference between a Logans run scenario and what I was suggesting which is to stop governments actively encouraging people to have kids. Which they do by making it government policy to reverse population decline, providing financial support to breeders and even funding fertility treatments.

The Chinese did it successfully for decades but that was with stick and not carrot.

Tbh, this is what authoritarian regimes do. Do you think the CCP wouldn't try to if they felt it might harm them to allow information to leak? Now that, my friend, would be naive thinking.

If you are talking about the population control, it wasn't that successful though. Chinese society lauded boys over girls and there was, according to reports out of China, enough killing of girl children to cause a notable inbalance between the sexes.

Obviously something we have trouble getting our heads round, killing your own offspring because of the sex but in their society it seems acceptable.

A bit like this COP summit, what you are suggesting is too little too late in my view.

I'm sorry, you're accusing me of religious zealotry? Where did you get that idea from?!

Yay! Boris has saved the world:

COP26: New global climate deal struck in Glasgow

Quote:
The Glasgow Climate Pact is the first ever climate deal to explicitly plan to reduce coal, the worst fossil fuel for greenhouse gases.

No, the worst thing would be to cut down trees and burn them. Using coal instead of trees would be a net benefit in poor countries such as India.

Quote:
India's climate minister Bhupender Yadav asked how developing countries could promise to phase out coal and fossil fuel subsidies when they "have still to deal with their development agendas and poverty eradication".

Can we assume that emissions > poverty?

As far as I can tell this is just another re-tread of "keep the poor poor" by so-called developed nations. It's very easy to be cruel to ppl far away in the distance Sad

It is all very twisted. I think the real agenda of the developed world is development of more consumers. The trouble is that requires a lot of activity and doing that without producing carbon is nigh impossible for a country like India.

It's all very magic wand, utopianism Sad

"We need to get emissions down!" (yes this trope again)

So anything? Anything to get emissions down?!

"Well no, no replacing wood and dung burning with coal and natural gas and certain no nuclear. We need to pay lip service to Climate Change not solve any tangible problems, you silly!"

Today it's "Just Stop Oil" tomorrow? "Suicide Booths for Climate Change" probably...

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/apr/01/down-to-earth-just-stop-oil-protest

The spectre of wannabe genocidal maniac, Roger Hallam, lurks behind this same as XR & Insult Britain. Yes, it's the same old faces running the show like every other Far-Left pre-fabricated protest but what I'd like to know is who's funding all this, most likely George Soros Thinking

I wondered when someone would get upset about this lot. Im more worried about the bunch of corporate fascists in wall st really. A few misguided students having a bar b q (vegan natch) outside an oil depot is less worrying than phalanxes of Harvard educated MBa's trying to find ways of working me to death.

These people are just another face of the hydra you term "corporate fascists." It's not a bad job though, being a professional protester, £400 per week apparently. And you get to charge your superglue to expenses Smile

I'd love an in-depth psychological analysis of the likes of Soros, Gates, Musk, etc. When you have more money than God why the obsession to make more or, more accurately, not "make it" but extract from the poor. Beyond simple psychopathy surely Thinking

I don’t know much about the other two but I never understand the hatred directed at Bill Gates. Is it just because he is ridiculously rich? He’s given billions of his personal wealth away for humanitarian causes.

Does a lotta work for charidy... and in amongst the "easy" stuff like building wells in Africa there's plenty of funding for BLM, Antifa and trans-grooming kids.

Bill Gates might not overtly want the destruction of Western civilisation like Soros but he's no saint.

I went past Lincoln Uni this morning and there was a huge inflatable chicken.

I imagine it cost quite a bit of energy to set-up / maintain this pointless gimmick.

Hypocrisy much?

Not if the net impact of said chicken is greater than its footprint. Not sure what the intended impact of an inflatable chicken would be in Lincoln on a Wednesday, mind....
