There's a Magpie outside my window, tucking into a nest of baby Blackbirds, whilst the adults are jumping at it and making a racket.

Circle of life, blah blah blah.

I did, but it wasn't impressed. So I put my chap away and banged on the window instead, It was pretty much "It's my breakfast, what the fuck are you going to do about it?"

Nurture not Nature.

(I haven't got a Scooby what that means but thought it was befitting an occasion such as this.)

Blast. I now have the same problem, a nest in the ivy on the workshop being buzzed by poxy jackdaws. Lots of blackbird alarm calls. Chicks still there though, but not for long, I bet. Undecided as to whether to lean some mesh up ahainst the wall strapped to a very short ladder I've got, will probably make chicks brick it. I bet they're over a week old, so not long to go if they survive.

I think it was the runt and would have drawn on the mother's resources so the others would suffer too.

I have a large lonicera bush in my garden and the blackbirds have given up trying to nest there.
Three years in a row the fecking magpies robbed their nests Twisted Evil

Thankfully the blackbirds still come to my bird table every day for some sultanas Thumbs Up

I’ve got no time for magpies Evil or Very Mad

I once shot a magpie with an air rifle in an unusual way.
The magpie is a clever bird and knows what a gun is - certain death. With this one I'd crept up behind it. I shot its arse and the pellet exited through the top of its head.

Cats murder chicks too btw.

For Magpies, I have never seen so many. I am in the far north east of China and it seems that they are the number one bird here, hardly any other birds. You see a few sparrows, a couple of Crows, but that's it.

They know the difference between a walking stick and a gun and can count to five. Try hiding in a building with a gun and see how many magpies you shoot. In order to fool them, you need six people to walk in and five to walk out.

They're not that clever, look at these three:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhMKcIUVUYg (skip 31 secs)

Though I have to admit if I see one when I'm "out with a friend" it disappears immediately.

Cats are also a real problem. Also they crap horrifically.
