First it was Alex Jones, now it's the so-called "far right." Next week: bans on anyone "Alt-right" and "Alt-right-adjacent"

Thought-criminals! No place for you in the new utopia...

I've never noticed a lack of space on the internet. It can fit everything in.

Strictly speaking, yes, the "Real Internet" is unaffected but for the proles FB, Instashame, Goggle et al are the defacto Internet Sad

Fingers crossed YouTube doesn't follow suit or I'll have nothing to watch!

I'm in two minds about this. The socialist in me says ban them all because they are insidious individuals hiding behind facades of respectability, but the liberal in me says I must defend their right to free speech even if I don't agree with what they say.

My liberal side is winning... Plus, send them underground and they become more dangerous, particularly if they have a genuine axe to grind i.e. lack of freedom of speech.

BCF may be dying as folk like 'medium density fibreboard 7x2' are holding the knife.

What's really tedious is that people rise to him constantly. Takes two to argue.

This is miles from a freedom of speech issue, although it seems that the confusion is widespread.

A garden variety fascist these days has all the freedom he wants, as long as he calls himself something vague (alt-Teletubby, ethnoabsorption-passive, or whatever moniker fascists prefer this year), and phrases his sentences carefully so they don’t meet certain legal tests. No harm will come to him, and this is what freedom of speech is.

What freedom of speech isn’t: it isn’t forced cooperation of other people and organisations to amplify our fascist’s message. He cannot compel others to repeat after him, or require a publisher to help him achieve fame. For example, if I run a venue and refuse to rent it out for a fascist meet-up, I’m not infringing on the poor souls’ freedom, I’m merely making a reasonable business decision.

Well that does sound extremely fair but...

FB try to present themselves as "conveyors" of information much like the Post Office that's so they can shirk responsibility for the content on their systems. Once they start "curating" what is on their systems they become a publisher and liable for the content they store.

Bear in mind there is, legally, a big difference between "there are too many <ethnic group of choice> in this country! don't let any more in!!!" and "there are too many <ethnics group of choice> in this country! execute the lot of 'em!!!" but the former is classified as "hate speech" by FB et al.

"Hate Speech" this is all I picture when ever that phrase is used:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvGmOZ5T6_Y

It won't be political stuff that breaks FB it'll be something trivial. Probably just a rabid fan slating one of the actors in the next Star Wars and one of Disney's lawyers will think it a jolly wheeze to sue both the fan and FB. That'd be the mother of all corporate 3-card-brag games!

Isn't that more fascist than socialist? Silencing someone because they don't agree with your way of thinking?

Read on, dear MDMA...

Because it is a loaded question, muppet. It depends upon definition of socialist and fascist. I don't see many definitions of 'socialist' that include silencing the opposition as a trait, whereas it is a common feature of fascism.

Are you trying to ascertain whether socialists can also be fascists? If so, just ask.....

An interesting point of view. Here is the counter...

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jan/19/cultural-marxism-a-uniting-theory-for-rightwingers-who-love-to-play-the-victim

Its like Communism v Keynes - both are valid ways of explaining our economic and sociological reality, yet neither really hits the nail on the head.

Lack of space isn't the issue here.

Which is false from what we have seen so far.

The irony is that a business acting like that is fascist.
