I spent the weekend in Crowborough, caught a look at the queue this morning as I drove back the other way
toward the M25. Looked like a bike meet in places. I must admit that once I drove past the end of the queue, I
chuckled to myself at every bike coming towards me (and there were loads) because I knew their hoon was about
to be cut very, very short. I thought it might have been some kind of biker do in Brighton given how many Harleys I saw. Whistle

Great comments, groups of bikers should be forbidden. Cool

Hope he makes a full recovery.

This is the main reason I won't ride in a group of people I don't know personally, or whose riding ability or experience level I don't know. The word "fun" is in there, it's the beginning of May, it's a bank holiday, lots of these riders will be riding the latest (leased) fap-machine in brand-new top-of-the-line leathers, new to biking or just very rusty since they rode last year. This means heightened risk to others. You may be a very good rider, but that guy to your right may swerve into you, oblivious, etc. Then you could have a mass pile-up on the motorway as all the other [modern equivalent of yuppy riders] panic.

I'll go to meets at the drop of a hat, say hello to people, etc. But riding with strangers without checking out everyone in the group, or establishing that they're an organised and experienced group? Not for me. I create my own lethal risks, thanks.

i think they have a point.

riding in groups is like joining the red arrows but nobody knows the manouvers and some dont even know how to fly.
then theres the blind ones, the stupid ones ,the ones who need to show off .
best group riding experience is finding where the group is going and making sure you avoid that place.sometimes by going to a different country.

I saw a few dank whoolies among the oncoming bikes once I had passed the end of the queue Cool Personally, I had a great
run home. Wifes phone navigation steered us round the closure and we joined the empty A21 further down and were whizzing
along unhindered on our way toward the M25. Each time I saw someone coming toward me giving it the beans I thought
"Enjoy it while you can lads, it's a carpark down there..." Laughing

Well I spent today building a shed so the whole sorry shizzle passed me by.

That said, I do my hooning when the plebs are all at work so the joys of bank holiday ass hattery generally don't affect me.

Thank fuck the dildoes will all be back at work tomoz.

Might go for a blat. Laughing

I totally get that.
Last time I was out I bumped into a father and daughter (both on bikes) at a petrol station and got talking. "Join us and head to Rothbury" they said. I told them I'd be up that way but via a different route - they asked I follow them. I actually made excuses to be alone!
Yes I'll join groups but sometimes I just want peace and a fun run out to do what I want.

we got caught up in that traffic on the A2, think we was all standing around for about 30-40mins before we started to move again, and once we got onto the diversion route we didnt bother going Hastings we just turned back and went home.

Too much traffic and stuff so i was like meh....im going home to rewatch game of thrones and do a bit of world of warcraft! Very Happy

I was one of those stuck on the A21 about half a mile from the scene of the accident. It was accepted that time needed to be taken to assess the situation but there was no bad feeling from where I mingled with others, both bikers and car occupants.

Monday the 6th May 2019 was just like the previous 40 Mayday Runs. The A21 is used to ride from Locksbottom to Hastings on the most direct route so that no one is left out.Since the M25 was built, those with 'L' plates have managed to find a way to rejoin the A21.

Thousands of riders have enjoyed the Run over the many years since 1979.It was not envisaged that it would carry on after 25 years. The fact that it has for a further 16 is proof that people enjoy riding with their friends and their family.

I read the Daily Fail article and the point that HEM Events Ltd were asked for a comment.I made it clear to Howard Martin of HEM that I would be very displeased with him if he were to make unnecessary comments about the situation on Monday on the A21,especially when all of the facts were unknown.

I have not been on the Margate Meltdown.Or the Southend Shakedown.Or the others around the country. But I have seen riders heading for bike events in Brighton and similar behaviour has been encountered. What I would not like to see is that any of our enjoyment of riding our bikes is curtailed because of the actions of a minority of those whose testosterone levels are overflowing.

Ride safe everyone Thumbs Up Wub

I have not long ago spoken with Howard Martin of HEM and he said that not only were the Dail Fail doing their best to try and get a story about the 'carnage on our roads' but also 'Kent online'.In both cases they were directed to the police as they have people who deal with the press for those situations.

So no massive calls for this or any other event involving thousands of bikers will be printed. No doubt the Daily Fail will attempt to cook something up.Anything to stir controversy Evil or Very Mad

Like what? Since you've accused them in advance, perhaps you can offer some suggestions. If anything the comments page
largely written by doddery old bastards who salute when the national anthem plays is more indicative of general hating
on bikers than anything the article says. It looked like carnage from my seat as I drove against the queue for some 3 miles.
But then I define a high capacity road reduced to a car park for hours on end on a bank holiday weekend as carnage and felt
very blessed to not be stuck in it myself. YMMV.

Just out of interest, how did the Guardian describe it? A lovely holiday weekend sit down on the armco watching the pretty
blue lights go by?

I went down there and wish I hadn’t. The stator went on my bike, just as I was pulling into Hastings. Engine light came on and I got to a car park with no issues. Went to start the bike a couple of hours later and nothing. Completely dead. Ended up having to buy a small jump starter from Argos. It wasn’t charged so had to ask them to charge it. That took five hours so had to mill about watching all the arseholes revving the crap out of their bikes. When the charger was finally ready, the bike started and off I went. Engine light was still on but bike was running OK – or so I thought. A few miles down the road and it started coughing and spluttering until it died completely. Called the RAC and they took nearly two hours to come out. Tested battery which was fine, tested stator, dead as a door nail. Had to wait for recovery truck – that was until the RAC rang and told me my MOT had expired and they’d have to charge me for recovery. That was £90 for the jump starter and £120 for the recovery home. Got in at 10pm.

I should have known better. Went to Hastings last year and ended up getting soaked and got a flat tyre too. Never again.

Fuck Hastings.

We went the last 2 years running ,although the old hands in the group said avoid the A21 as its busy and full of speed traps
So we left boxhill early and went another route ,it was fine both times
This year the reg/rec packed up the night before so we just did boxhill as I couldnt chance a long ride with battery power only

They didnt open the hard shoulder or inside lane then either by the look of it and let some cars /bikes roll through at a low speed ?
