Minor Paint Repairs

I was planning to respray my upper fairing, but having had a good look, found the previous owner has done some really cack fibreglass work on the underside of it and I doubt I'll ever get it smooth enough from the spud-field it currently is. I thought there was some damage of some kind, due to the fact that the bottom half is painted black - yet these bikes originally had all silver top fairings.
I paid less than the usual, though.

Anyway, as it will cost me £150 for a decent pattern top fairing, unsprayed, and I'm a pauper pensioner, I thought I'd just get a touch-up bottle and tidy up the 2 scuffs, plus a minor one on the tank, and get a new fairing sometime in the future.

I used to do up old cars and sell them as a side income in the '80's, but haven't done any panel paintwork since about 1988 - so to say I'm rusty (no pun intended) would be an understatement, but I do scale modelling as a hobby, so spraying paint is something I do regularly.

The pictures below show the scuffs - would be grateful for any tips from people who do this kind of thing regularly, or have done plenty in the past.

Like any metalic/mica paint you will have to match the paint and paint a complete panel.
It's impossible to match up substantial areas as the particles in the paint flow into position when applied. It not easy to get the same flow twice so the particles do not sit the same same way as the original and reflect light differently.
Long sentences... That's what murderers and rapist should get.

De grease.
Buy some GT Pro flexi filler for plastics filler repairs (eBay).
Wap on. Rub down. Go to Halfrauds with some of your fairing off the bike and do a rattle can colour match ( by the window a interior shop lights cause mismatch.)
Plastic primer will be worth using beforehand.
Keep the panel warm, light strokes x 5 to 6 coats., may need lacquer .jobs a goodun.

I have some touch-up paint coming, was planning to see if I could thin it a bit then spray it on.

The right shade of paint (Holts) costs £18.99 for 300ml on ebay, which isn't too bad. Halfords are very unlikely to have the right shade - not that you can tell by the tops anyway with silver.

I'll look for that other stuff - thanks for the tip.
**edit: Yeah - I know that stuff - used it to repair the fairing on my ZZR when I fell off and smashed the indicator through the fairing. Good stuff.

Just pick your bike OEM, model, year and panel colour.

1&2 can't be seen from the riding position. 3 looks more like something stuck on?

Problem solved. Get a new fairing some time in the future.

Or don't. It's doing everything a fairing should do.

It is enough, though - like I said, mixed with a bit of thinner for spraying through my H&S airbrush, it would probably be more than enough. Still, £6 for that piddley amount..
