Just say you wanted a sports bike that was kind of road friendly and had £3k to spend. What would you go for and why?

Is a Hyabusa out of order?

If looking at the lardy sports/sports tourers I'd definitely get a gen 2 hayabusa if possible (not sure if in budget, and not like it really matters if you get a good condition bike for a reasonable price), or a zx12r.

I'd probably budget to replace some bits and pieces though like consumables too.

That said I feel I'm kinda stuck with my ZX9R. They're a reasonably priced good road bike that's difficult to justify selling on.

However, saying Hayabusa, any of the big jap missiles would be sporty enough if you're not too comfortable on a full on sports bike. As mentioned above, ZX12R, Blackbird wouldn't be a bad shout either. Depends what you want to use this bike for, going to be going on A-B road blasts for a couple of hours or clock up a couple of hundred miles in a long day?

Best £2.5k I've ever spent.

A very mint example of a GSXR750 K1/K2 (2001/2002).

Bigger and comfier than the more modern stuff. Handles like a dream and you can have a bit more fun with it on the road than the 1000 (I own a thou it's fecking awesome but it makes the world go blurry very quickly, almost too quickly for the road).

Your budget would get a very nice one with enough change to fettle to taste.

However 'busa if you want one buy one now, good examples are only going to get rarer.

I think gixxer 750 is the best does it all sportsbike....but they are pricey.

People go 600 or thou. So there is an abundance of each (relatively). The 750 is less popular, commands a premium. But ultimately, probably the better UK roads bike.

Price vs condition is all. Each bike will have its strengths / weaknesses.
I'd be tempted to buy whichever was the best bike available for the money and accept it for what it is / enjoy its goods bits.

But I'd be looking at GSXR-750, GSXR-1000, Fireblade, Daytona 675R, CBR600-RR, GSXR-600.

I've no justification for this suggestion at all, other than it was considered a slightly porky sports bike that was well suited to road riding at the time.
They are getting on a bit now.
