Quite. Freeman of the land is a concept people subscribe to because the idea appeals to them, nothing more.

Ironic that they (try to) use the law to assert their right not to be bound by that law.

I suppose it's another one of those "society is imperfect, we must smash it" movements but as extremist libertarian rather than the traditional communism/fascism.

Unlawful instead of inconvenient if we are taking that stance but the right to travel isn't something limited to these freemen.
